Thanks Alien. With only 11 acres I don't think I want to fence in the critters living here. The brushy canyon at the back is their migration corridor and there are still a few other farms along the canyon where they can come out onto cultivated land without finding a fence at the edge.
That weasel is a real character. I've seen him watching me from various gopher holes, then today he was watching from behind some paint cans before he fell in that hole. After he climbed out of the wall he came back and watched me again for a minute before he departed. I've read that weasels eat one third of their body weight each day, all live animals. I don't recall seeing mice recently since he arrived. I still have numerous gophers but now many of their burrows are dug up. Last year there were coyotes digging the burrows, now I don't hear coyotes and I think the weasel is responsible for all of it. I hope the day has finally come when the number of gophers will decline.
