Your looking for some "Pipe Wraparound" to mark your pipe. Then it's on to the cutting method of choice

As mentioned a shop with the proper pipe cutting torch may be your best bet. They can also bevel the cut if you wish.

But patience and an angle grinder will get you there.

Just for interest there are a number of pipe cutout templates on the market.

I see enough material in the pic of the pipe and stove to make your wrap around. Those blue banding straps will work as a wrap around. Or you can take the lumber from the top of the new stove and nail them into a t square and lay it with the T hanging off the edge of the square end of the pipe and just slide it around the pipe while marking off the other end. An abrasive wheel on a skill saw can be used to make the cut, just follow your line. You might have to take your grinder with a cutoff wheel to get the cut started, but once you have a slot big enough for the saw blade to drop in, it will cut pretty fast. It will get plenty hot as you are sawing too, so it wont hurt to take a few breaks while you doing this. You will probably need the break time before your saw does

A roll of adding machine paper makes an ok wrap around. With pipe sitting up rite, level, make mark and use 2 foot level going around pipe marking every couple inches at desired height. Once 1 end is done simply measure from that line to other end of pipe and mark around. Next way level pipe up rite on floor, measure up from floor every couple inches alway around.

The wrap-around needs some width proportional to the diameter or it won't square up. A straight-edged strip about 10-12" wide cut out of the stove box would probably work as long as the corrugations are parallel to the pipe and you get a tight wrap. A roll of aluminum flashing would be perfect. Take your time and tape it in place to make an accurate, clearly visible mark. Use a black or silver sharpie, whatever gives the best contrast.

I saw there was a response and had a light bulb moment!:shocked: Stand the piece of pipe up on the flattest surface you have. Then shim it so a 2' square lines up all the way around the pipe. Then you can measure up to get a straight cut. If you shimmed the flat surface so it was level in all directions, you could use a 2' level on the side of the pipe to do the same thing. If the base is level and the pipe is standing level vertically, then measuring from the base up all around the pipe will make for a square end. The other way to do it is to level the pipe horizontally and do the same thing on the ends.

The 2 methods to mark mentioned will work.
The wrap around using felt marker or even rattle can spray paint.
Flat surface and block + felt marker.

To cut, skill saw with abrasive blade and hand held would work pretty well. I also have cut 1/4" with a VS jig saw at low speed with a bit of cutting oil.

Might be easier/faster to cut the circle ends to a tight inner fit and weld the ends finishing with a grinder.

The fastest is probably the skill saw method.

I had exactly the same idea. I might need someone to rotate it for me if I can't come up with a simple way to get a 1/3" hp (chinese HP) motor to rotate it for me.

For a wrap around, I was thinking of using a hose clamp. Or just marking it while rotating it on the upside down dolly.

You dont want the pipe to spin too fast. which is going to take some gear reducing. probably no easy way to do it. Easiest and cheapest would be offer a buddy a case of brewskies:drink:

Go to Walmart or a paint store and get some heavy duty paint masking paper. It comes varies widths. You can wrap most of the pipe to get square. Then spray paint it. I would cut just outside the line then grind to the line. I have an 18" pipe that I need to square up too. I already have the paper as I just finished spray painting a house.

Stick it on end in a box lined with a tarp , shim it plumb then add water and mark your cut line.

Now set a cutting laser in orbit around it, using radar range-finding to confirm that the laser's orbit is perfectly aligned with the axis of the cylinder. This will occur when the laser's orbit is perfectly circular (its orbital velocity will be constant) and the laser's distance from the surface of the cylinder is constant. Use monopropellant thrusters to slide the cylinder up or down along its axis so that the laser will cut in the right place. The thrusters must be perfectly symmetrical with each other, and centered on the cylinder's center of mass. Re-confirm that the laser's orbit is still perfectly aligned. Finally, activate the laser to commence cutting. The force of the photons coming out of the laser will cause its orbit to change slightly, but this should be within tolerances for the project and does not need to be compensated for.
