With all the other threads popping up here about the economy and cheaper tractors on the market, I want to ask you, why do you buy Deere?

I buy Deere because we deal with the Deere dealerships a lot with our farm. I get good prices and for the size machine I just bought, I do not thank anyone makes anything like it with a cab. I always look to other dealers/makes, but i always feel I get the best service and quality with Deere.

How about you?

Also, if anyone who does not buy Deere is reading, why don't you buy Deere?

Deere is the 1600lb gorilla. Dealers everywhere in these parts which makes it easy to get service, parts or accessories right NOW. For instance.... this past Saturday I decided I had to have a canopy on my 3038e so I called the closest dealer. He didn't have any in stock. So I called the next closest dealer. He didn't have any in stock. So I called the next closest dealer. He had four in stock and I told him I'd be right there. Within three hours I was mowing grass in 98 degree heat while sitting in the shade of my new canopy.

Besides, you can't beat the color!!!

We buy Deere for our Farm because they hold resell value better than any others. Ken Sweet

My color decision (green or orange) was made by my wife since both machines did the same thing for the same price and I could handle the ergonomics of each. Since we have an olive green house, she didn't want a bright orange machine sitting next to it looking all garish. So there's my secret (which is actually no secret!)...

Having had a multitude of brands I have had better luck with Deere overall. Perfect score so far, all the Deere tractors I have been satisfied with, can't say that about IH, Case or Ford. I will say that most of the tractors I have had were alot better than the cars and pickups of the day.

All of the above manufacturers have made some great tractors though but you do need to know how to pick through the various models.

not to bring up a dead horse but for me it was the turn brakes on the left and the forward and reverse pedals on the hydro tractors that won out for me .

All things being equal (which, of course they never are) Deere equipment should be within 5% of most competitors in regards to pricing. I know we all hear about how much more expensive "green" is but, in my experience, a reputable JD dealer is not going to be very far off from the competition - but, we must compare apples to apples, which is not always done.

That being said, if the machine and price are comparable and the ergonomics fit, why wouldnt you purchase from the manufacturer with arguably the widest ranging after sale parts and service availability?

Of course, I might be a little biased...

For me it was really about pricing. JD had the right machine for me (3032E) for a price that was lower the similarly equipped models, with better financing to boot.

I looked very hard at both Deere, and Kubota before buying my tractor. In this area there are far more Kubota dealers than Deere. I liked the small 2000 series Deere's a lot, but couln't find one set up with a loader to try at any dealer that I had the slightest interest in dealing with..... ( one "city" dealer had one, but they are like a used car dealership) . In the end, I needed something to get some projects completed before starting a major medical journey, and I just couldn't get a Deere in time. I bought the Kubtota since what I needed was available from several dealers in stock. It has been a good tractor, and I've done a lot with it given my situation, but I have often wished for the steering brakes, and position control on the Deere. Some ergonomics are better on one, and some on the other so that is kind of a wash.

I no longer have any JD products but have in the past. JD produces decent equipment but I believe not as good as their reputation would make you believe. They do have a top notch dealer network. I believe you pay a premium for the JD name. Is it worth it, you decide.

Had a new 336 baler and first yr, knoter frame broke, broke at least 4 needles due to incorrect info from JD about timing. Big end bearing on the plunger crank had to be replaced at least once a season for as long as I owned it. Tongue jack was a real widow maker.

Owned a 318 GT for many yrs and I didn't find it all that reliable. Developed a oil leak in the hyd system within a yr or two and was never able to find it and I even pulled the engine. After about 10 yr of ownership, developed an oil leak in the transaxle at the split line. Trans axle had never been separated. Did appreciate the 2-spool hyd on the tractor. Did have to replace spindle bearing on the mower several times.

When I went to replace the 318 I went to the local JD dealership and looked for what was then currently being offered and comparable to the 318 in features. Don't recall the model number now but with mower deck price was $7k. Went down the street to the local IH/Cub dealer and took a look at the Cubs. Still looking for something comparable. Never owned a Cub but uncle has 3-4 of them and swore by them. Looked at the 3000 series and liked what I saw. Cub was something like 70# heavier than the JD and it showed. Cast iron transaxle, shaft drive for both the transaxle and mower, grease fittings or oilite bushing at every wear point. Got the HD mower deck and is the beefiest design I've ever had. Tip the scale at something like 265# (48 in model) has a doz grease fittings and spindle bearing are tapered roller bearings. Have had this for 7 yrs now and nearest thing to a failure is one front tire having to be replaced. Will say their decals are on the cheap side but that doesn't affect performance. Price was just under 6$ with the HD mower.

Not sure when I'll be looking for something new but when I do, the JD dealership won't be the first stop.
