So why do you buy Deere? Even when times are tough?

I buy John Deere because that is what I like. Same reason why I drive a Ford, buy Rockport shoes, New Balance sneakers, etc. :)

I owned a couple of small Deere CUT's and lots of lawn tractors before shopping again for a 3320 recently. I was really put-off by two Deere Dealers prices and lack of any kind of a "deal". They didnt even seem to try or care.

Where I keep my tractor thier was a Kubota dealer...but he was in and out of biz pretty quickly....and was more oriented to outdoor power "sports". The other brands are 50+ miles away....which is probably close enough....but I like dropping by locally for a part on a last minute basis. Deere is just easy to own in this area.

I priced a new Bobcat....and was pretty interested in owning one. But I decided to look for a slightly used Deere instead.....as the parts and service and resale value for Deere is simply the best....IMHO. I found a reasonable deal on a used tractor...BUT....if a "commited", qualtiy Kubota or Bobcat DEALER was in my area....I may be owning a different color.

The most frustrating thing is that Deere is not 5% or 10% over-priced to similar tractors....but it's more like 40% against brands that want your biz. I like most of the way Deere does biz....but I dont feel I like I owe them the kinda price loyalty they want to extract from me.

Still....they sell lots of tractors and equipment....and it feels as though Deere is going to "be there" for a long time to come with a good product and great service / parts support.

Couple reasons...

A) At the insistance of my in laws, I purchased a well used F935...Model year 1988, 3,500 hours...Came off a golf course, ran like a top....I'm a little **** so I "restored" it to like new condition, my Deere dealer treated me like a "long lost buddy", even on a machine they didnt sell, and to a customer who was a "nobody" to them.

B) After looking at all the tractors available when I was shopping, in about 10 minutes the only 2 real tractors "mechanically worthy" of my consideration were Deere and Kubota. The attitude of the Kubota dealer sealed that deal....I dont think I'd want to buy a 20 oz bottle of Pepsi at that Kubota dealer :(

C) The "perfect storm" of events occured and the pricing of the JD was supurb...

D) Kinda a spinoff of A, but parts availability is 2nd to none...I've had a complete rear axle for my F935 shipped overnight to my doorstep from Momma Deere. My FIL who bleeds green still buys parts for his 430C Johnny Popper Deere at the dealer...Bear in mind the 430C is 50 years old...

Ultimately what made the final decision was something my grandfather told me.... "Business goes where it is invited and appreciated"...

There are a bunch of reasons but the two biggest are:

1) I retired from there so I know a little about their quality control.

2) The dealer is only two miles away and they are a great bunch of guys.

My decision was between a JD3720 and a Kubota L3940. The dealers are within 1 mile of each other, and about 15 minutes from where my land is. The Kubota dealer was a bit of a jerk, and the Deere dealer went out of his way to help me make understand the things I should be looking for in my first tractor. I had done a bit of research and had an idea of what I might need, but he clarified it for me. His price after negotiations was very close to the Kubota dealer. My tractor, is made in Georgia (other than the engine) and I am very much these days into buying American if possible. The post-sale performance of the dealer has been very good so far. I'd buy another Deere in a heartbeat, but Kubota would be my second choice.

When I was looking for a new 75hp tractor, Deere had one of the best prices and good financing. Not at all the Deere is more expensive experience that I keep reading about. They have an excellent reputation, and build a solid product. Just before I put the money down I found a used deal that I couldn't pass up or I would also have green on my farm too.

I really like my Kubota B21 TLB. But problems with the dealer are what made me decide that my next tractor would be Deere. Both dealers about 15-20 min. away.

A few little hiccups with the dealer, but they always made good. I'm not regretting the decision. Price difference make Deere and Kubota in the same ballpark.

You've got to really know what you're doing to buy cheap stuff in hard times and not get bit. I'm not good enough mechanically, and don't have enough shop and tools to do that.

I spent several months looking at every brand available within 50 miles. During that time, the MF and Kioti dealers closed their doors, and the Cubcadet dealer stopped carrying any inventory. That left Mahindra, JD, Kubota, NH and Bobcat. I wanted 30 PTO HP, a FEL and Hydro. The JD 3038E was the least expensive of all the tractors I demo'd.

I liked the Kubota but the dealer didn't offer much of a discount. The Mahindra's looked like they'd been on the lot at least a year and had turned from red to pink. (I'm not driving a pink tractor) The NH dealer didn't have anything in my price range on the lot.

My oldest son was a tractor mechanic for 17 years. His opinion was that after considering parts availability, and resale that JD was my best choice.

I bought the 3038E with FEL and 60" RFM. In my opinion it is a bargain.

well, when i got my L118, i was looking all over craigslist and it happend to be the right price. with my yanmar, it also was in my price range. Funny thing about both my Yanmar and Deere, i can get parts for both of them usually from Deere and their parts department is great! they either have it in stock or can get it within a few days which keeps the down time minimal. when my dad was looking for a tractor a few years ago, we stopped in at both Kubota and Deere. The Deere dealer had the better deal so a few days later, there sat the 3720 in the driveway. :D:thumbsup:
