So why do you buy Kubota? Even though Roy says JD's best? :)

Also, if I came off a little strong and insulted anyone, I am sorry.

I do not want to be argumentative and I certainly do not want to get anybody upset.
RJ, as someone who always manages to say something somebody will take the wrong way, trust me... it's pretty easy to be misunderstood in this kind of medium . I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Nice of you to say, though. :)

...Let the flux capacitor discussion begin!!

That brings up an imortant question - should the flux capacitor be green or orange?

I'm not sure if I looked at the right part, but the one on mine looked to be off-gray.

Two cents worth...and not much more

I just went through three months of collecting stats and hitting my local dealers and watching all the posts on TBN. The JD dealer here is very reputable but the price of the tractor I needed was 7 to 10K more and I also needed some newer attachments. I've seen more and more orange around here for the small acreage guys and when I asked them if they were happy with their toys...they didn't have much bad to say about Kubota and they all mentioned the cheaper price in our neck of the woods. The K dealers around here have also been good to deal with according to the neighbors.

You have to figure that Kubota, by making the tractors themselves, will have a price advantage over JD that has them built by others, i.e. Yanmar. Yanmar needs to have a margin and JD needs to have a margin. Being in the manufacturing business I figure that is a 20% premium at a minimum.

So back to topic. I just thought of another reason to buy Orange. I got a free Barlow Kubota Hat.

And I got free 3-point hitch. But I bought my BX25 when they just came out, because the engineering was great, it was built tough, I could get it on my 5' X 10' trailer, and the other guys (esp. JD) simply could not touch the price. Also, the folding ROPS was important to me, which the JD did not have. Have been happy ever since, and now with a BXpanded bucket expander on the horizon, I will have huge capacity in the FEL for mowing snow and other lighter material.

That came up when I was researching a few years ago now. Frankly, call it being naive or just being out of the tractor world for too many years, but it was a bit odd to find out all these "names" were actually built to spec by someone else or merely re-badged. At the compact level, Kubota, Kioti and who else?

A little disconcerting that those "relationships" between builder and re-marketer can change with the breeze, as we have seen. Top to bottom Kubota designed, built and sold provides a comfort level. Kubota also does not sell their tractors to anyone else either. Makes them unique, imo.

This is in reference to this JD thread: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/john-deere-buying-pricing/179889-so-why-do-you-buy.html

Specifically in reference to Roy's "Why buy a Deere? Because we want the best..." and "Yep...Kubotas...fine tractors and well suited to those who can't afford the best" comments.

Let's see if we can shake him up a little!

I looked at JD, NH, Mahindra, & then Kubota. I bought my L3940 HST 'cause it's the most awesome-ist!! :)

First thing ya gotta consider is, who the he11 cares what some greenie azzhole like Roy thinks, anyway?

We'll listen to you on our side Roy even if they don't get it here!

For me the final decision came down to price. After researching on this and other sites for a long time I basically narrowed my choice down to Kubota or JD.

I purchased a Kubota L4240C w/FEL in July for $37,500 CDN (plus tax). The list price was around $42,500 which was comparible to the JD4320 which I was also looking at, but the Kubota dealer really was interested in giving me a deal on a cash purchase and the JD dealer was not.

I only have about 5hrs on the tractor so far but it has been great.

for me it was price and the fact that every jd i looked at i found horror stories about and the kubota i bought i have yet to hear anything bad about.
