So why do you buy Kubota? Even though Roy says JD's best? :)

I own a Kubota mainly because the dealer there wanted to deal, on a Kubota, the other JD dealer did not, neither did the NH dealer. I started the day at NH, I had a nice NH 8 years ago, and liked it a lot, went to JD, the selection for what I was looking for was not there, and stopped at the Kubota dealer and he wanted my business bad. So I bought another Kubota. I own a JD lawn tractor and love it. All of the major players have great tractors, I am sure there are plus and minus points to all of them. I have no brand loyalty, I could just have easily been on a blue or green one. I did try a Cub Cadet/Yanmar but did not like the size of the workstation. everything else was ok. But the Kubota has (for me) a more ample sized workstation. But of the three major brands, I could just as easily bought either one.

Probably the same reason I bought a Toyota. I got more for my money, great resale value, just keeps running and running with no BS issues, and it doesn't turn into a complete piece of crap in ten years. :D

Wow that is some heated discussion. I own a Kubota simply because that was the first one I could find in my price range. Tried out Kubota, Deere, Massey and I felt like either one could do the work I use my tractor for. I could have ended up with either of these and I would have been a happy camper. I don't buy anything because it is one brand or another. I buy things that do the job I want done.

The only competition in the CUT and SCUT size to Kubota quality-wise is possibly John Deere. They don't use Kubota engines (the acknowledged best in class), they use less reliable and noisy diesels from Yanmar, so why bother with John Deere in the CUT, SCUT size.

It's funny that everyone refers to the "green" or the "orange".

I say funny, because when we went looking, we couldn't find it in "green". We had to decide between "orange" and "YELLOW" (and I don't mean yanmar)

We were looking for a FEL/BH. Something a little more than just a tractor with a BH attachment (we already have that). "Orange" sells them in their TLB line. Walk thru cab, true backhoe. "Green" does not have it. You have to go "Yellow" to find it (JD 110).

That means having to locate a "commercial" dealer and trying to negotiate with people who mainly sell to companies and municipalities, not individuals.

With all that, when we looked closer at the "yellow" (JD110), we found it didn't have all the features as the "orange" did. One obvious feature that "yellow" lacked was a tilt wheel. When you are not real tall, that feature comes in real handy.

I bought Kubota based on the experiences of friends. I grew up on JD's and still have an affinity for them. At the time I bought my BX23, I looked at the JD. At the time, the green SCUT looked to be a rush job. Nothing looked integrated, so I saw potential problems there. Nowadays that definitly is not the case, but it was then.

The BX has been absolutely trouble free for 6 years, so I bought an RTV500 and then an RTV1100 soley based on my experience with the BX...

A few minor issues with the first RTV, but I was one of the first buyers of that machine. A few tweaks here and there and it ended up fine as well..The RTV1100 has been out and proven for years and I've had no issues with it thus far.

The sportsmans club I belong to bought a Cub Yanmar and it appears to be a pretty nice machine...Although the RFM isn't as durable as it should be...Some strange stuff happening to that. The tractor itself has been trouble free...These things get better all the time regardless of brand.

Bought a Kubota because I wanted an affordable, but reliable small tractor. Looked at almost all the offerings and I am pretty color blind, I think.

Bought BX1860 because there just aren't a whole bunch of direct competitors to the wallop you get for the buck for the small BX. I can't think of any.

Since making the purchase, orange has pretty well gotten into my blood, to be honest. I also am comforted by the fact that unlike so many others, I did not buy a re-badged tractor. Something good about knowing that Kubota makes it, top to bottom, and doesn't sell it under another name. Something few others can say.

I went shopping for my first tractor expecting to buy a cheap used model for mowing the field part of my lot. I did not know anything about tractors, implements, tph or fels. I was pretty much clueless except that I knew the brands Ford, Deere, MF, and IH as farmer quality equipment. I had heard of Mahindra, Yanmar, Kubota, Cub Cadet, Ariens, Ingersoll, New Holland, Allis Chambers, and White; but knew little about their quality.

I went to find a dealership to learn a little about what I should look for and just happened to stop at a Kubota dealership. I planned to pick their brains and then look for the used tractor on Craigslist.

I ran into a salesman who despite having other things going on at the time, and being the only salesman on duty that saturday afternoon, answered all of my questions eagerly and gave me a lot of good advice about things I had not even considered. He showed me several of the units on the lot and told me why they would or would not be suitable for me. We settled on a range of models that met the minimum and maximum limits of my requirements.

Afterwards, I started reading reviews on the various tractor sites and forums, including this one. I decided that Kubota had every bit as good a reputation for quality at Deere, Ford, Massey, etc. I got as comfortable with the idea of owning a Kubota as any other model. I visited a couple other dealerships to get a feel for their product lines that matched up to what the Kubota dealership had recommended. I decided that I liked the feel of the Kubota seats more than the Mahindra. I did not get an opportunity to sit in a Deere due to my work schedule and the Deere dealership hours.

I went back to the Kubota dealership to talk price so I would have a good idea of what new costs were so I could better identify a good used price. Then the dealer sprung the 0 down 0% interest financing on me. Suddenly, the cost of a new unit got a LOT cheaper.

I did some comparative shopping, got some quotes and advertised packages from dealers and took a look at used unit prices on CL and Ebay and saw that a used unit with not a lot of hours or needing repairs were not far off the new unit prices. I could save a couple grand at best on a tractor less than 10 years old.

The Mahindra was my lowest package price, but only by a few hundred and I did not like the feel as much. The Deere was almost 15K more than the Kubota and did not include as many implements. So the Deere was priced at 176% of the Kubota price, but for less quantity and nothing to show any specific quality boost.

I went back to the Kubota dealer and found the dealer just as easy to work with as before. He looked over my comparable deals and we discussed some implements we had not discussed before. I asked for a deal I figured was fair, suggesting that I would take good used implements in the deal for the items without moving parts. He countered back with the same price but all new implements instead of used. How could I refuse that?

I have been very pleased with my equipment, have heard on one lower priced deal ($400 lower but in a different area of the country and not exactly the same implement group). I can't complain a bit about my support or the communication from my dealer since the sale.

I did not buy Deere simply due to price and lack of anything from the Deere dealership to win me from the competition. I still think Deere makes good tractors and might even provide good support for all I know.

I have 40 wooded acres and I log as a hobby, needed a CUT or medium size tractor for it.

Kubota is the obvious choice there (see Brain55 post).

If I had 100s of acres and my livelihood was farming then the best choice would be JD IMHO.

Are we sure Deeres are more expensive? I priced a Deere 3038 before I bought my L3700SU and the price of the Kubota was a little higher.

Could be a regional thing. More competition in your are, perhaps? I'm not all that familiar with the JD 3038 or the Kubota L's. Are they truly equivalent machines?

In my section of KY, Deere definitely prices their stuff higher than the competition.

One side note...since becoming a tractor owner, I've become much more cognizant of the machinery I pass as I drive by. Instead of passing a "tractor" on the road, I pass a "Kubota", or I pass a "Massey". And off the top of my head, the only Deeres I'd estimate to be less than 10 years old that I see are the ones mowing along the roadways for the state. And there aren't a whole lot of ones older than ten years either. I do see a lot of Deere combines and one very large JD (70xx Series?) tractor.

You'd think any business is good business, but maybe a lot of the JD dealers make enough off the big stuff that they're not all that interested in the small stuff.
