Bushhogging heavy stuff is a load but pulling even this small 5' disk was fun and a load. Tough on the operator to. The bigger tractors I'm use to don't bounce around like this lightweight. But in this sandyloam the disk could bury my tractor. The 250# weight that came with it would help in virgin stuff but would be worse in this sand. I rolled up a lot of the goatweed in one pass. I know I should have mowed first but I couldn't wait!!

It's either sand like this or red clay filled with chunks of iron ore(what we call it anyway). In the bottoms there is some nice black gumbo.

Rob, can't really tell if that tractor's a four wheel drive but if it is you could be wearing some driveline parts out fast! Nice sand box!

Yep, 2WD. The fronts are turf that were on the tractor when I bough it used. I added the ags for this sort of things.

I was hoping that sand would polish the disks better. But lighter disk, smaller tractor I guess. Well that and my Grandaddy disks on the big JD's would stay in the ground about 10 hours a day. They were mirrors!! I did knock the air filter out after this. It's been a bit dry down here lately.

I almost bought a L2500 many years ago. Ended up not buying a tractor at all at the time and the first one ended up being the BX22. I was so naive at the time, I remember asking the dealer if the L2500 would move round bales
I guess that also proves I was really optimistic in my future planning - 8 years later, I still haven't had to work with round bales. BUT, I still hope to - someday (dreaming again?!).
No sand like that here - not even on what is called a beach (lake) unless someone hauled it in!

Can you please explain your comment regarding the driveline?

I do have a 4wd (albeit green) and was thinking about pulling a smaller plow. I also do a lot of grading with a full-to-the-top 5' box blade.

Is driving in Low under such heavy load a bad thing for the driveline if it's 4wd?

Technically I think I could pick up a round bale, just not a 6x5. Smaller ones maybe. That 530# FM was about 7' behind the lift arms (the pipe I bought is 10'), and all at the very end via the chain. So someone could probably do the math and figure out the weight the tractor felt. Maybe some 4x5 bales?? Definately some square bales...the little ones.

I'm guessing Art means the sand will get into the parts and wear them. Around here they also call it sugar sand because it's so fine. But where I grew up tractors worked in the dirt, running through cotton and bean fields in central Mississippi, not mowing lawns all the time. IMO pulling a disk or plow is what a tractor was invented to do. Nothing like hearing a diesel working hard all day.
