For issues like this I wonder if a person had a form that the property owner would sign that are no obstacles (to protect the contractor) or utility or septic lines ( I'm sure that one could make it more generic) that could be damaged on the property while doing the requested contract for services. Once signed it should be the property owners responsibility. I'm no expert but it seems as if there should be some method to protect the contractor on an issue such as this.

I've already got a standard contract agreement I use. It has the usual "hold harmless" clause, a disclaimer of sorts, and a statement regarding "unknown conditions".

They're good enough for 99% of my customers. And the other 1% will drag you into court regardless of what they signed.

WTG FWJ. It's been my experience that anytime you can get one of these dumb issues settled at minimal or no expense...a guy should quickly take the deal and move-on....to focus on something positive. But sometimes these kinda jerks should be served 40 lashes for being such idiots....they just have a twisted view of right and wrong...or feel "everyone is out to get 'em."

Maybe we are....heh heh heh.

There is always going to be somebody around with a tractor/lawnmower/pushmower or weedeater that is hungrier than a snake. That will be the most likely candidate for his next chance at getting something for nothing. A sign on the next door neighbors property telling people to call you before mowing might be a good investment, but in reality, nothing in it for you, but maybe a website link to this thread posted on the sign?

Glad everything worked out for you. I think that taking the high road as you did is the best course of action. Why stoop to the same level as this guy? I too have become very concerned about the number of losers out there who have no moral compasses. It makes you wonder if the human race is headed ultimately to disappear as we slowly destroy ourselves.
