I worked for the same company for 39 years and enjoyed ever day of it. I have been retired for 20 years, but I work 6 days a week in my shop or on one of my tractors..Life is good.

Many people who seek employment are inappropriate hires. Why would you alarm the existing employees by parading them through the place of work?

If you are asking about pay, that is a sign to a potential employer that you probably are not a good fit. Those questions come later in the process.

Of course not. Is the new hire knowledgeable and ready to hit the ground running? Or a newbie needing hand holding?

Quoting schedules to applicants is a trap for an employer. Existing employees may resent this.

It is probably best that you did not apply.

I prefer transparency over evasiveness. It's a sign of whether a company is trustworthy or not. General pay scales should be posted openly on all job listings (ie. the GS level on Federal job listings). Why waste your time applying only to find out it's a minimum wage position?

Based on this interaction, I would prefer not to do business with this company at all. Unfortunately, I don't really have another source for electricity.

Seven weeks retired as of today. Have not been home (Florida) for five weeks. Been to N.C. once and Georgia twice. Now on my property in Georgia trying to finish my new garage build.

Congrats on your new life!

Transparancy goes both ways. Did you inform them that you are retired and bored. Just looking for something to do.

As a non-employee you know little about the company. So you form judgments, but based only on what you can see from the "outside looking in."

Being unwilling to engage their hiring process they have chosen, you won't get a chance to learn more about the company during an interview. So, you have decided the process is wrong and they are a bad company.

Regrettably our society has declined in this area. It has become a custom, something expected, for employees to lie on resumes and puff their accomplishments. Having hired many people, I personally know this to be true. But if a company makes even a slight error, out come the lawsuits.

One applicant sued a company for back pay after working at the company for several years. Why? They advertised the pay at $50k per year. And he got paid $50k per year. Except his lawsuit claimed a "K" actually represents 1,024, not 1,000. So he sued for the difference between those two numbers. Claiming he had been "tricked" by the company. Even though that is a hiring and advertising tradition for decades.

I most certainly did. From the very beginning and in every contact. Along with my experience and qualifications.

This is a public utility and a member owned co-operative. There should not be anything evasive about their processes in any way. I haven't decided yet if I'll make contact with the state's utility overseers.

Okay, I 'll cut to the point.

Were you the hiring agent, would you hire you?

Were I the hiring agent I would not hire you for any fulltime, responsible, progressive position. What will I do a month from now whem you decide ur not bored anymore and leave?

So,,, I might consider you for an entry level seasonal job at minimal pay. But then you would be insulted again. :)

Thanks Richard. I have enough projects to last at least the first year. And I'm sure more will be put at the bottom as the year goes by.
