as we loose more & more rights
The infamous 'slippery slope' bogeyman which people have been 'predicting' for years. I guess Miranda is yet another example of us 'loosing more and more rights'. If you feel that strongly about it, contact your legislator, start a TOAD organization, convince others that sobriety checkpoints are wrong. If enough people agree with you, then the laws will be changed.tractorErnie said:Im not saying that our police is that way, but as we loose more & more rights who knows whats down the road ?

And if you're referring to sobriety checkpoints (your post isn't clear about exactly what 'campagns' you're referring to), more often than not, they're funded by the federal (or state) government, who pays for the overtime for the police.
Bird , if we put the criminals to work (I mean real work) the city road crews could be retired, that alone would save billions to any major city. Most of my police friends do not like to work the check points because they know to many people in town. But when the holigans are in line the fun begins! They could get around all this with (decals for drunks), child molesters, and other perps, then the normal folks could just drive on by, kinda like trucks at the weigh stations on the highway.Theres gotta be a better way.Bird said:Ernie, I understand what you're talking about. I never traveled in such countries, but I did have the opportunity to get acquainted and spend a lot of time visiting with police officers from around the world.
But what many people here don't seem to realize is that instead of losing more rights, individuals are gaining more "rights" than they had 40-50 years ago. And those "rights" come at a cost; i.e., more crime, more tax money.
But yes, the pendulum swings both directions. If you're an air traveler, I guess you could say you've lost some rights since you have to tolerate some really ridiculous "security" measures.

No, nor do I look for conspiracies behind every tree. I find it amazing that with the inquisitive press and whistleblowers around today that anyone could believe in a Government-Police-Insurance Company conspiracy. It stretches credulity that with all the people who would have to be involved in such a conspiracy that no one, no one, would say anything. Believing in such a conspiracy is as ludicrous as believing the rooster crowing causes the sun to rise or that the earth is flat.AndyM said:Do you believe everything happens exactly as you hear it?
