Cornice, soffit carpentry question. I have some trusses set at 2' on center and 24" deep for soffit .Sub fascia in the front no nailer in the back. Can I use 1/2" BC plywood for soffit with a 2" continuous vent, which would make the 1/2 pieces about 11" wide x 8' long.

I guess you could use 1/2" plywood, but I just don't understand why you would want to? Just did my soffits although we only have a 12" overhang and ran a continuous vent down the center. There doesn't seem to be a need for thicker plywood material.

Sure...what is the siding on the building?...

If the soffit is going up after the siding you can use a trim strip etc...I would recommend priming/painting all edges of the plywood (including the but joints)

2" is not much of a vent though...can you not open it up to 4" ?

2" x 8' pieces is how it comes from the lumber yard . the other option would be 8" x 16" squares and leave the 1/2" plywood 24" wide

How is the attic space ventilated?...that is the factor in determining the amount of venting needed at the soffit...

with just about any circular saw you can use a cheap rip fence (that connects to the saw) and rip the panels down...

is there a reason you do not want to go with something like aluminum or vinyl soffit?...it is much more on the maintenance free side...

gable vents on both ends 4/12 pitch 28' wide 64' long. old school not familiar with vinyl could see if the local lumber yard carries it.Thanks for the reply. 12' x 12" vinyl cut into 2' sections with J channel is what you are suggesting

yes that would work...the "J" channel trims the building edge...use "L" or "F" channel along the sub-fascia or use aluminum fascia that has the "L" break...
