I have a question for the welding gurus.I have a old Solar 2120 mig welder I want to use flux core wire in.Can I switch the ground and gun lead without short circuit the machine.

I'm not familiar with that welder. Some machines you have to go inside to switch the polarity.
To run self shielded flux core on a regular Mig machine sometimes you can get away with running up .045" wire in a Mig gun, but don't be surprised if you have to buy a dedicated flux core gun. You may also need serrated drive rolls.
