I have a G1800 tractor and if has been setting for a few days or left out in some rain it won't start with the ignition key. When this happens I jump the solenoid switch to get it started, and usually that will have the key working again. Also, sometimes the glow plug will not activate off the ignition switch, and I have to jump it too. I suspect the cause of this is either a bad ignition switch and or a computer problem. Rather than spend the money to replace them I want to put on two switches so that when the problem occurs I can just push a starter button to start it and another switch to activate the glow plugs. I am wondering how heavy duty a switch I would need to use for this? I suspect the switch for the solenoid could be a regular push button switch, but would the glow plug switch have to be something more heavy duty to handle the current draw (the wire I use to jump it can get warm after holding it for a few seconds)? A link to a supplier could be helpful (I am in Canada so a Canadian supplier could be easier to buy from).

Sorry I missed your post but I did get your pm. I just replied your PM on this question but I did a little research and found NAPA here in Canada sell the switches I recommended. I snapped a photo of all the napa infor including the item number. You can also purchase rubber boots/covers to go over these switches.
Hope this helps.

4shorts,

Thanks a lot. I knew in my head what would work and how to do the install, but didn't know what rating switch I would need. You gave me what I needed to know.

Thanks again. You are a real asset to this forum.

Your more than welcome. I was happy to answer your question but If it were me I'd look for the root of the problem before I modified the system. It may be an easier fix than adding switches. Either way you know what's best for you. Hope you get it straightened out. ;)
Good luck.

Paul
