If you had a nice drill press, putting the rod into thru holes and then welding around the top would be nicely stout. But it would kill your 30 minute limit!

And its 5/8 HSS re-bar not 1" and they only hang down about 6 inches. So far so good. And with my other 10 foot extension it would make a good pond rake, J_J mentioned that when he stopped by.
