Back in 1962 I bought a like new black 60 impala rag top .Wish I'd kept it .Most beautiful sharpest car i ever owned .I later had a 59 sedan in the 70s that turned out to be one of the worst cars i ever owned .Would love to see pictures of your 59 and 60.

I don't know how to post pictures, but I do have a few pictures that I woul be glad to send to someone privately and they could post if they wanted.

We also had a 60 Impala 4 door with a six and three on the tree; also had a 68 4dr Impala with 283 and pg. Both were really good cars.

Hi, Yes, My Dad bought a brand new 1960 impala with 283 and Hydromatic???.. It had some engine trouble and he traded it in on a new 1964 Impala, with 283 and powerglide... So that makes 4 of these models that we owned between us...My used 1964 seemed to be one stout car, as i crashed it in an accident, without injurys? I should have rebuilt it, but bought a Brand-new. 1970 Malibu 2 door, with 350 2bar. carb and 350 turbo trans. This was the best American-built car I have bought, from Arlington, texas plant...Sure wished they still built a car that size with rear-wheel drive??I have looked at buying another one that model, but they have become "collectors models"..

I had a 70 SS 454 Chevelle with 4 speed and I sold it to buy a house. Came to find out only 506 LS-6 chevelles were made.

Murphy. My neighbor in those days drove a gasoline tanker. he bought the 1970 Malibu LS-6 option, 450hp, with the rock crusher trans.. That car ran like a dragster, but he used MT cheater slicks..Couple years and it wrapped a telephone pole..Insurance totaled it, and he went down to buy-it back....they had already ID and eyed it. wanted 5 grand for the powertrain...Too much, so he bought a used 1970 Z-28 with the 302 hp...Now talk about a jet on wheels..WOW.. those days are long gone, but everytime I am at a carshow, I have those memories again..

I think in 1960, your choices were a powerglide, turboglide, 3 on the tree or a 4 speed. More than likely a turboglide; that's what I have in my 60. Smooth, no shifting automatic, but a bit of a gas hog. My 59 has the powerglide. I think the hydromatics were primarily Oldsmobile, but they were also put into some Chevy trucks.

Thanks Brin. Some nice cars there. Contrary to what some think, I thought the 57 Chevy as butt ugly with the 58 cleaning up some of the lines was better. Then someone in design was sniffing airplane glue again and out came the 59. The thing I liked best back then (other than being younger) was how car designs changed every year. My buddies and I would bet on who spotted the first new car for the year. The winner would get dinner at the local Cow Palace. Was an extraordinary time between 1948 and 1967. Inflation for all those years was lower than from 68-72. The cars, the airplanes, color TV and other innovations made for exciting times and for some reason, more exciting than the computer and cell phones of today. Maybe because things were interesting in a plural family sense where everyone got to watch the TV or ride in the new Buick and people fed off everyone else's excitement as new things then were not so "personal"?
