Someone shot out my back tire, again!

Once I found the bullet, my next move would be picking up the phone to call the police. That bullet may be evidence, so keep it handy.
Anyone who willfully destroys another's property with a firearm is not someone to be toyed with. What if you had been working on it, while it was sitting there, and one of those bullets had caught you?

Just once... wouldn't you like to catch somebody doing that! Tar and feathers come to mind.

It might be bad for some of us to catch them. Dialing 911 hopefully would come to mind before I dial 357!

Playing devil's advocate here - could it have just been a stray bullet? I know that may sound scary, but in my area lots of people do target shooting in their "backyard" (think 10+ acres, for many of them who are real farmers more like 500+ acres) and I don't know how good the berms they're using are. A .22 rimfire will go about a mile if shot at a high angle, either intentionally or by accident.

It may some antisocial type, but before I called police I would consider the chances of a random accident. No, it's not reassuring since a random accident could also land in your bedroom, but it is a real but small possibility.

I'm also curious what size/type of tires you have. I would have expected a tractor tire to stop a .22 rimfire even at short range. Or was this a jacketed bullet like a .223 centerfire?

Anytime a bullet is involved, it should be reported to the police. They are the correct people to be asking questions and doing the investagations. It doesn;t matter that it was a stray or not. Trying not to get political or start a debate that will lead to arguements, but we have too many things that we let pass nowadays because we think it will create a problem. Unless we start doing the right thing, we are going to become a country that will be run by thugs.

Sorry, I;d better stop before I go too far.

to little to late ;) the oil maffia already has it...

REPORT it! i cant say that to enough people... no one in the us wants to take responsability for their actions any more. you will quickly get run over by some one who sees your a push over. it may get some one busted before they take it to the next level.

Im getting a .50 cal bmg to cover actions like this. some 20 yo with a car decides to pop my tire Ill pop his engine block and have the police collect the lil sewage plant.

.50BMG are fun to shoot, but you got to catch the culprit first...that would be the hard part, as random is no fun to catch!

A good point a few posts back. I wouldn't think a 22 would make it into a tire unless darned near up on it. I wouldn't even try it for fear it would just bounce back at me.

I would tend to think whatever puched that bullet into a tire wasn't a .22 rimfire.

I should point out I am no firearms expert. I was just looking at the owners manual for a Ruger P-89 that I own and had to chuckle. The very first warning is "Do not point firearm at anything you do not wish to destroy."

Kind of funny, but if you had to sum up a firearms safety course in one statement, that would have to be it.

None of the farmers around here will leave any equipment parked along the road for this reason. I have never heard of anyone shooting a tire out(I'm sure it has happened around here) but those nice expensive cab windows make a good target for a game of rock toss. If they must leave it in the field they park it far enough off the road so it can't be seen once the sun goes down and hope for the best.
