Well so far no one has returned to the scene of the crime and I hope they don't. Although I live in the country it is becoming a rural subdivision out here which in this case is good. We have some pretty good neighbors that have become pretty good friends, I just like a little more privacy. In this case though it is pretty handy having neighbors close by. I have talked with a couple of them and let them know what is going on. They are now lighting up there area real well of an evening too. We have agreed to watch each others place as much as possible. For example I went to my sons basketball game tonight so I let my neighbor know and what time I expected to be back. He is close enough to keep an eye out on the place. I will do the same for him when possible. This is not bullet proof but it helps some. We have agreed to write down some plate numbers of strange vehicles in the area and a description of the the vehicle like Eddie suggeted. I am thinking about a game camera but I know nothing about them. I like the horn idea also. I also like the idea of making them walk to town in their underwear. The temp is 18 degrees right now. Cold @ss walk to town.

We used to live at the end of a long lane. Although it had no tresspassing signs posted and a dead end road sign posted we always had people drive back. I guess they can not read or something. We caught a car coming out of there one night when we were coming home late. I stopped in the middle of the road and they went through the ditch to get out of there. Turned out to be a couple of teenagers looking for a place to park.

I was at harbor freight last night, they had high powered horns for 10.oo. I picked one up, i also have a battery at home what else would i need to hook this up as an alarm.
I am figuring on some type of trip switch, probably a magnetic door switch, i also want to put a keyed off switch on the outside of our barn. I saw some in the new surplus center catalog. is that all i would need, horn, battery, mag switch, and key switch?
thanks

You might look at the type of switch used on race cars. It connects between the battery and the power distribution box. It's a big red switch with heavy lugs on it and the key is a big red T handle.

I'd mount it on the outside near the door and I'm sure if no one knew what it is they would never guess, if they do know what it is they would leave without trying the door.

You fellas might want to check out > X10.com - Security Cameras, X10 Home Security, Wireless Camera, Home Automation, Electronics and More! - they have all kinds of inexpensive but quality security products from motion activated flood lights to alarms and many different security devices including inexpesive night vision cameras that are wireless and record to your DVR or computer or VCR as well as allow you to monitor from your tv at night when you are watching a tv program. I have used and do use their products and have never had a problem..they have driveway alarms to...quite a site.

I don't "light up" the area for a burlglar to see his way around, and be able to lurk in the shadows.

I much prefer the motion detectors and lights that come on WHEN the burlgars are lurking. And I also dislike the neighbors who flood the night time with lights all night long.
And true, sometimes deer and coyotes pass through and trigger the motion detectors. But if the light is on for any reason, I know I have an excuse to check it out.

Use a relay for the horn they usually draw more current than a magnetic switch uses.

A set up for a friend he had an old car alarm with the key fobs and used that to do the arming /disarming no key pad and on line they are like 40-50 dollars

For me, I welcome those kinds of visitors. No pictures needed to be taken by me. They can get those at the hospital or the morgue. By the time that kind of visitors get to the barn they have gone on their journey, through an electric gate, up a 600 yard road with pasture guard dogs welcoming them, past 2 road sensors that alert the house, triggered the 2 motion detector lights, and have me waiting for them with my M1 on the back deck overlooking the 100 yards to the barn.

Have talked to the sheriff twice about this particular scenario and he just says to get some target practice/fire away................These kinds of visitor have NO RIGHTS. Yes, prudence is called for about a "lost" stranger; but they won't be wandering around inside my barn carrying stuff out will they?

Anyway, just my thoughts. God has blessed me with what I have and I intend to keep it..........God bless OUR country........Dennis

I have to agree with Eddie and others that signs are ignored for various reasons. Quite a few years ago when my wife was in the hospital after giving birth to our son, I returned from visiting her and the gate to our drive was open. No trespassing as well as beware of dog sign at the gate. I drove up to the house and saw a man standing on the couch on our front porch. He had gotten to the front door when the dog who had belatedly heard him rounded the corner of the house running. To make a long story short, she had him trapped on the couch and when ever he tried to step off, she would growl and threaten to bite so that he would jump back on. She had him cornered there for over an hour before I returned. As it was, he was just there to deliver flowers from a friend for the birth of the baby. He should have read or paid attention to the signs. That was a great dog though.

Engraving your tools with an id # or name helps when they get caught or fenced. Lots of Sheriff departments have an ID system where they can give you a number to use. "Smart" thieves will not touch the stuff if they see it.

I like your attitude. If more people took this stand, less scumbag animals would be trying to take away what we've all worked hard to obtain. The only good thief is a dead thief.
