Well the plot thickens. I got my cheque today but it only had the initial increase. The sales manager said he mentioned it to the GM to update my raise after their meeting and I should talk to the GM. What a tight prick! He said it's not effective till the 15th as the cheque had already been cut. The sales manager even said that's BS and the owner is going to have a talk with the GM. I'm tired of their stupid games. I did apply at another place and it would be so nice to just give my notice. I can just see it... sorry we forgot to update your raise but it will be on the 30th... Sorry forgot again......

I'm sorry that you work at a place that overlooks your contribution and worth. Far too often good folks own a business and have no idea how the bread gets buttered because of middle managements lack of character.
I have never asked for a raise at any company I ever worked for. When I felt my skill and expertise was under compensated, I marketed them elsewhere. I also never bargain after I made my mind up. They will always offer more when one foot is out the door. I feel this trains them in to riding down an asset for profit until they are just about to lose them. I feel a man must have values and principle, he must also not waiver on either.
The flip side is I have always treated my employees as assets. I compensate on value, not their financial needs. When I see extra hustle and want to I rewarded that. There comes a time that a job peaks at pay. There is only so much a given position is worth, unless of course bleeding hearts have the purse strings. I have never believed in raises just because of time on the job. That's ridiculous.
I not suggesting anything to you. I'm not saying I'm right. You have decision to make and the longer it takes to make it, the more joy it is going to rob from you.

Sometimes, the devil is in the details. If you have another meeting, make sure everyone is clear on the details, and effective dates. It is very easy for a company to issue another cheque, to make up the difference, if they wish to do so.

It could have been an oversight. Make the best decision for the long term.

The sales manager seemed sincere in his apology for taking so long and told me on Friday he thought it was total BS the revised increase doesn't take effect till Mar. 15. They already lost a good inside sales rep. They offered him money to stay but it was basically too little too late. He also had no confidence at all in the upper management of the company. I'm certainly not going to keep playing these stupid games. The GM is an accountant and also a shareholder in the company. I think this is a bit of a conflict of interest. He doesn't want to ever give an employee a lot of praise because he might have to pay them more. The more money he saves the more goes into his pocket as a shareholder. I wish I was in the position, I could have walked out right then when he said the cheque has already been cut. Just the way he said it was very arrogant!

You can bet your sweet bippie that nobody's raise has ever been overlooked in two departments - payroll and personnel! Their lack of concern for your increase is reflective of the management and the company. True it's the sales people that 'sell'. But when you shut off production their little honey-hole will dry up PDQ. My advice is to quietly look around for a better company. Then make a decision and don't look back. The future is yours for the making.
