"You can't always get what you want" - Rolling Stones
"You take my Breath away" - Queen
"Coming Back to Life" - Pink Floyd- Richard Gilmore
How about "I did it my way" -

Depending on who the individual was that died could be the deciding factor on the songs to be used.
Many of the ones listed I've never heard or heard of.
I actually have a couple of requested songs for my funeral when the time comes;
One of them is Prop Me Up by the Juke Box.

Only the good die young - Billy Joel

It was played at a friends funeral, 18yo and pretty sure the parents didn't know the true meaning of the song!?! Somewhat awkward...

"I love the dead." Alice Cooper. Ooh, thats pretty sick.... :)
I'd play "Tip toe through the tulips," by Tiny Tim.

In my life I've been to half a dozen funerals. I've never heard music, of any type, being played at these functions.

However - many of the suggestions here seem quite appropriate.

Maybe a local thing. We always have a favorite hymn or an uplifting ballad, sometimes performed by family members.

On a tangent, at my wedding the DJ (a friend of mine) played "I knew the bride when she used to rock and roll".

I've been to too many funerals to count. Mostly older relatives, but a few very young children and adolescents, and a few under 65 that passed from illnesses and/or diseases. Most being Catholic masses, there were the customary church hymns during and after the masses. Never audible music with lyrics at the funeral homes for those.

However, most of the funerals had a party afterwards. Usually a luncheon at an American Legion, or a church hall. There, they'd play the deceased's favorite type of music, we'd all sit around, eat, drink, and talk about the deceased, as well as catch up with friends and relatives that we haven't seen for a while.

Nearer My God to Thee is a popular one.

Once upon a time I was an altar boy in Catholic school...I have been to many funerals for people I don't even know. There are always hymns. I've been to some other denomination services and nondenominational, all had some type of hymn.
