My OEM 2004 Kubota BX Deka battery is still on the job... says a lot.

Mine went almost as long...

And I think as rough as I am on tools, beating that BX on stumps and such, Deka is way to go.

NAPA has them, regularly on sale. Often 'year' groups (75, 84, etc.) are same prices.

So, when I need to buy, I spec the OE battery for size and amps, see where I can exceed (height, width, etc) and then pick highest weight and CCA for permissible size. Takes a minute, but it works!

My 'surface' research indicates AGMs for rollover, otherwise price per performance - CCA.

I replaced the battery on my M6040 after nine years. It was still going strong but I really HATE winter replacements. Besides - I have other uses for the Kubota OEM battery. I looked around and decided on an Odyssey as a replacement. It's an AGM battery and at Group 31, it has a listed 1150 CCA rating. It's an industrial/off road rated battery.

It, obviously, cranks the tractor over - even in the coldest of weather.

One thing to remember when bragging about how long battery last, if it can always start a engine IF engine is easy start, batteries loose the capacity over time so as time goes on there is less reserve power to crank, and on one really cold winter day and engine refuses to start, battery is suddenly going to die...... Its like I had a 8 year old battery in Ford Ranger PU, it always started, instantly, but one day my son borrowed the PU and turned on emergency flashers (engine off), killed IT in about 20 minutes.... The battery was worn out and could not produce the sustaining capacity to keep flashers live....

Very true and I know the mild climate of the SF Bay Area accounts a lot for longevity.

My BX is parked in a walk out basement... Pretty much 55-65 year round.

BX is my only experience with Deka.

As for longevity... immediate neighbor 100, across the street 105, down the street passed at 104 with most of the rest mid 80's. Maybe it's the water?

Most batteries today are not as good a they uses to be...It sort of our societies throw away thing, if it lasts to the end of warranty period its a miracle..... There is no guarantee that a battery with Massy on side will will be any better than one with "elcheapo" auto parts label....

Absolutely CORRECT !!!!

All I buy is AGM Batteries fo my ATVs but they dont last long even keeping them on battery tender made for AGM. At first I was buying expensive YUASA batteries and Id get 4-5 years. Now I by the cheapest for a third of the price and get almost the same life out of them.

Still up in the air about which replacement to go with but I am thinking AC Delco more out of past experience and me being a fan. I hope they wont let me down :)

Why pay Amazon $170.35 for a Group 51 AGM battery with a 2 year warranty?
An EverStart Maxx, Group 51 battery, at Walmart is $119.76, and has a 3 year warranty!
Are you really in love with AGM, even if it has a much shorter warranty?

The EverStart Maxx is a 30% saving, and a 50% longer warrantied battery!
And......if a warranty claim,..... it would simply involve stopping at the nearest Walmart!
I ONLY buy Walmart EverStart Maxx batteries for the above reasons.
Best bang for the buck in batteries!!

Nope-I really dont want an AGM, they are a PITA to maintain. You need special tenders, and if you have to boost it you lose some capacity everytime. They dont like the cold (even more than me). I was looking just an AC Delco....but I may reconsider Everstart Maxx, have not heard much negative reviews on them. I also heard good things about the Exide batteries.

That battery only has 325 CCA, my portable generator's battery has 375 CCA and its a small lawn mower type battery.

I put an AGM Optima Battery in my fishing boat over 20 years ago because I could install it on it's side, and what a POS battery, had to buy a $250 Napa large rolling battery charger just to charge it and was very disappointed in the performance of this AGM battery.

Used it for starting/running outboard gas motor/electric trolling motor and ended up leaving it installed and installed the largest deep cycle lead acid group 27 battery in another location, and then I could troll all weekend with no additional charge except when I ran the gas outboard motor.
