Soundproofing the B3030 Cab and found something interesting

I guess I may need to get down to Graingers and grab one of those pads and just do it, 'cept it's 45 minutes out of my way, and not sure when I'll have time to get over there. Be nice if I could find some 3/8" thick stuff at HD.

Or, I guess I could just shave 1/8" off the 1/2" stuff I already have on hand. Yeah, sounds like that's the way to go. :confused3:

Darn you Waxman! :grumpy:

Just order it, you'll have it the next day UPS, The good thing about the waffle pad is all the waffle like holes, designed to dampen vibration where a flat piece of solid rubber would not do that as well. Remenber I put the dynamat on the top and bottom which will bring it to 1/2 inch so there is some leeway on that 3/8 inch. If you wanted to use that 1/2 inch stuff.
Remember I was the ginny pig so you can have an easier life :mur:

The 1/2" stuff I have has holes all the way through it. Not sure if that will work as well as the waffle stuff that has air pockets that aren't open all the way through.

It works great under a compressor.

Depends if it's really soft and wiggly it might work better.
Here is the 3/8 size it's only 13.00 plus shipping , you'll have it Thursday, I think you have enough to do between now and Thursday

I've already put the Dynamat on the underside of the tranny hump cover, but maybe I'll give the 1/2" rubber iso pad a try. If it seems too thick, I can shave it down 1/8". The back of the pad is formed in such a way that would probably make it a little easier to take some material off if I need to. The Dynamat should stop any sound making it's way through the openings.

The floor pans that I've already put the Xtreme on, "thud" when I whack them now, so this soundproofing should make a world of difference. Even the pieces with the factory foam on them sound like there's nothing on them at all.

This is the stuff I have. The solid portion is 3/8" thick, and the circlular rims on the back stick down another 1/8" for a total of 1/2". I can shave the rims off to get it to 3/8" if I have to. The lighter portions on the back are what actually sits on the (dusty) concrete floor:

I wouldn't shave it down, the different materials its made of help with the dampening, I would use it as it is, looks better quality then what I used.Is it hard rubber or soft.
I know you can make that 1/2 work.

Softer rubber, I guess, but it could be because of the way it's made. The 3/8" portion on the top side is pretty stable, the bottom nipples and the rims at each opening allow it to give/flex some on the underside - probably what helps it to absorb the equipment vibrations so well, yet give a stable surface for the equipment feet to sit on.

The lighter looking bottom is just the dust from the floor - it's all the same black rubber material throughout.

I just need to decide if I lay it on top of the tranny hump right side up or upside down. Upside down would put the more solid surface right up against the tranny, and the more flexible bottom side up against the Dynamat Xtreme on the bottom of the sheet metal hump, which may be the best way to go in this instance, since that puts the vibrating equipment (tranny) on the same side as when the mat would be on the floor under a compressor.

WaxMan, are you planning to do anything around the openings where all the levers/pedals are located? It seems like a lot sound/dirt can enter at these points. Stanley

srs,
I don't think all opening have to be sealed. The most of the air intake on my older B3030 is coming from the engine fan blowing into the cab thru the openings in the firewall. That engine fan is very powerfull and a constant stream of air is blowing against the firewall and leaking anywhere it can into the cab.
They make some Black expanding foam I think just a very little squirt in the cracks and wire openings will stop most of it.

Like the small crack on that metal front piece in this picture, the crack where the metal is folded behind the tilt lever . Stick the BLACK expanding foam straw right there and just give a tiny little squirt, then trim with a razor blade the next day. It is really a dark gray color. These are the things that have to be sealed. There are big gaps where the wires go thru the firewall. Once my dash is off you will see how much dirt is under it. My tractor does not have that gray foam oozing around the bottom opening like in Bandits picture. So those spots will be squirted also and trimmed .

The foam you buy for home is cheaper, but it is yellow and that would look awful.
