Jim, I had the misfortune of spending a New Years Eve in a hospital several years ago, and the dinner tray that night included a long stemmed (plastic) champagne glass and a bottle of Perrier. I was happy for the opportunity to try it, since I'd only heard of it, and I was even happier that I hadn't paid good money for it.

Bird, you may not have paid good money directly, but I bet your insurance company did.:)

Having spent time in the hospital myself with no insurance, yes you can bet someone did pay. I swear they list every last Q-Tip and Kleenex on the bill. And they're not even the good ones!

fresh sassafras tea will darn near cure the common cold
Vaporub on a cigarette will get the congestion out (I hated that as a kid but it worked - also educates you not to smoke at an early age!)
squirrel does taste good if your granny cooks it, so does rabbit and dumplins
...and there ain't nothin' better'n fresh blackberry cobbler with hand churned vanilla ice cream

Of course, you're right. I doubt that they itemized and listed it on any bills, but it was part of the meal. And yes, I did have insurance.
