Yanmar 1610D
Hey guys.
I am in need of a spare key for my 1610D. The key I have is a John Deere key and I am wondering what model JD key would fit or if another source would be better. Thanks for your help.

Take your existing JD key to a JD dealer and ask for two just like that one. They used to come in packages of two.

Thanks guys for replying to my question. I did take my key to the JD dealer, no help. They seem to not want to help you if you didn't buy your tractor from them. Choffman, that does look like the key and I will order a couple today. Thanks.

The John Deere dealer near me is the same way. They were down right ugly to me. I went there to look at some implements and made the mistake of telling them I had a Yanmar. They did not even want to sell them to me. I get all of my stuff from the dealers that frequent this forum.

SailorBob,
sounds like we went to the same place. When I showed him my key he asked me what model tractor I had and when I told him I own a Yanmar he gave it back to me and said sorry, we can't help you. Can't understand why people want to be that way.

Don't miss their going of business sale...they might have great prices...

It is amazing that so many people in business don't realize often a very small sale leads to larger ones. Many many people will test a dealership with small purchase before making one to them that is large. Sometimes we do this without realizing. You stop by and make a little purchase to justify your being there or pick up a brochure or such. But even if you already own two of every other brand their is, you may buy again but you sure will TALK.

I have keys for your tractor.

Get them from Danny. I couldn't remember his email address or I would have posted earlier. I bought a set from him 6 months or so ago. Worked great. To h-ll with JD.

The problem is not the size of the sale, but that you have a gray market tractor, which is hated by most all legitimate tractor dealers, (no parts, no service).

Thank you Choffman41 for that link. I've been hunting a key for my YM226D for a while. It sure looks like my key. I had gotten a key from a yanmar dealer that didn't fit at all.

The JD dealer may not whether a particular Yanmar is gray or domestic. Might just not like anything not JD. You don't get repeat business by not helping customers.

Can anybody tell me how to get a cheap second key for my 2004 Mazda B3000 truck without having to pay the Mazda dealer $125 to program it plus buying the key?

I understand what you are saying but don't agree with the attitude.

I have a business and if you call us for a product we do not sell we do our best to help direct you to who does. Why, one it is right, two the guy I sent them to might do the same and ending up sending me business the next time and three, most people remember it. I have had people come back to me due to the way we helped them when they had given up. If they don't remember your helping them but they certain will remember you did not try.

Kthompson, you have a good heart.

My local Deere dealer is like the one SailorBob described. He had sold US Yanmars back in the day and was still running an 'Authorized Yanmar Parts' line in the Yellow Pages when I phoned asking about potential support before buying my first Yanmar - a US model. On the phone the general manager said he still had the Dealer-version Flat Rate Labor Hours and Shop manuals, and could provide service if I ever needed anything.

But when I stopped by in person to ask more questions I couldn't convince the service manager that my YM240 was in fact a legitimate US Yanmar. The idiot pretty much called me a liar, blustered and ranted about 'always' ordering parts that 'never' fit 'anything'. I simply couldn't get him to calm down and talk to me in a civil way.

I haven't been back. I've found it's simpler to order parts from 2000 miles away.

Guys, what I seem to hear you saying is that you feel the same way I do about being treated in a bad manner. I will never go back to a JD dealer and thanks to the quality of the Yanmar tractor you just don't need that much for them anyway. Thanks to this forum and the good people here many problems are solved with your advice and help.

Second key? No, not if Mazda did like Ford (who owns them IIRC) and Chrystler did. However, if you have two or more working keys you can program more yourself (Directions for ford which are almost identical to the Chrystler ones), if you dont you have two keys you will have to go to a dealer. This is supposedly to keep a valet/thief from making a working copy of your key while they have your car and keys.

I found this out about my wifes 2004 Caravan after I lost my key chain... It was not good.

Kind of funny here is a good one I just had this pic.out for another form and then I was reading this. I'm not kidding you should have seen the lip go up when I told a local dealer and when he got a look at this.I was waiting to hear he doesn't sell or have any parts for it when he slammed a book shut. Must of had been having a bad day:p

I only have the one Mazda key so I guess I am stuck with either having one key or paying the dealer a lot for a second key.

I should say that I have a "Fordized" Mazda because it appears to have more Ford influence than my earlier Mazda B2200 in my opinion.

Call around on keyprogramming prices, we have one dealer (20 mins away) that wanted $200 to program the key and another one (30-40 mins away) that wanted $120 to program the key for my wifes van.

And remember, having a dealer program a key is going to be cheaper than having your car towed to the stealership for them to cut and program two keys if you should ever lose the key that you have. I am planning on having the stealerhip program another key for my wifes van, then I will program another pair of keys myself (no reason not to when they are $10/each on ebay) to keep as spares. Then we will have 4 keys for her van. A great selling point if/when we end up selling the van.

Is there some way to take this system off the truck and not have these gizmo keys? Just looks like something that is going to fail eventually or cause some other problem.

Sort of, I have heard that you can mount a working "smart" key under the dash (ie: just the plastic head with the electronics in it) and then use a ordinary "dumb" key to run the car, that way there is always the signal that it is looking for. However this is a third hand rumor, so YMMV.
