Spare Wheel Question

I have a weird question. A friend of mine was telling me that if I took a pair of 16" wheels from a Chevy that was a 6 lug configuration that is is the same wheels at the 8-16 tires that I have on right now. I want to put on a pair of snow tires so that I have spare tires and wheels to mount chains on in the winter. Do, I have to get a rim that is 8" wide or what though. Maybe I dont understand wheels. Does the 8-16 mean a 16" wheel with 8" of width? Anyway, I have found a pair of these wheels for $100, and the tires wouldn't be that much more.

I had the same thing in mind for my 1401D. I took measurements between bolt holes and found they are not the same. /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif I too would like spare wheels but haven't really pursued any sources.

I have a YM1301D which has the same wheels and tires as the YM1401D. I was told by a local Ag tire dealer that I could get 16" tractor wheels on which I could mount used 265/75-16 tires from an SUV. There are apparently 2 bolt patterns that are standard, and the 16" wheels on the back of the 1301 and 1401 are the smaller standard for ag equipment. He also told me the wheels were only about $40. The 265/75-16 tires have the same circumference as the 8-16 Ag tires.

I have a guy make wheels for me. He will make any size any width any bolt pattern any offset. I have had several sets of wide wheels made to put industrial tires on my Yanmars. He is reasonable and good to deal with. The standard size wheels for a YM1401 should be cheaper than the Chevy wheels you mentioned.
