Split Brakes on a CUT. Necessary?

Not related to split brakes, but FRONT brakes would make zero turn mowers and tractors MUCH safer on slopes. Out of control machinery down a slope is a very common tractor accident. It is very counter intuitive to back down a slope (at least for me).

Great advice all! I'm leaning heavily toward the:

Kioti CK3510 HST, TLB, ROPs, Industrial tires.
Options(dealer or aftermarket):
-Floor mat.
-Horn:
-Rear remotes(1 detent, 1 spring).
-HST linked throttle.
-Work lights.
-Third function valve.
-Tooth Bar.
-Box blade.
-Grapple.
-Snow Plow/Dozer blade-hydraulic.
-Top-n-tilt.
-Extendable lower links.
-Rimguard.
-Forks.
-Tire chains?

I'm sure I'll think of other things and I may have to shrink the initial listed depending on money.

I do wish it had split brakes but hopefully I won't mind too much if I go his route.
Well, you wont miss the split brakes if youve never used them. They are really priceless when you need them though. Snow plowing is a time that theyre likely to help .... and potentially make it possible under conditions, road slant, etc that would overwhelm steering control alone. Same with all the unpredictable times on other tasks where you find it cant be done without just a little more control. When youve had split brakes and used them for what theyre worth you really dont want to be without them.

That's actually what made me think I want them. I've run an '80s case 580C for years and the split brakes are the only thing that make it safely useful. Bald tires all around, 2wd and a fairly light front end...you use the split brakes more than the steering wheel sometimes.

In the dealers available to me, the Kioti CK3510HST or CK4010HST, and Mahindra 2538HST are the only tractors I'm considering based on my wants and the price. I also considered LS as they are an hour away.

Of the three:

LS has split brakes on left, hydro on right but no position control. I'll be using a box blade and maybe rear blade a lot for the first year or two.

Mahindra has split brakes on left, hydro on right and position control but has loader joystick in horizontal forward position which I hate...and I'll be using the FEL a lot.

Kioti has no split brakes, hydro on right, position control and vertical, tractor mounted joystick. Kioti is also thousands less than the other 2 and 5 minutes away.

Most other points are similar. The Kioti wins in all backhoe specs. Kioti wins in most loader specs. Mahindra wins in the warranty, 400# heavier and no DPF. The LS falls right in there as well.

I recently noticed that on a Kubota B7200 HST, the split brakes are on the pedal just above the direct/speed pedal.

Guess what happens when you lift your foot off that lower pedal. Yep! The tractor comes to a complete dead stop in about the time it takes to move your foot to the brake pedals.

Now there is a work around. There is a hand lever to set and hold speed that is linked to the foot pedal. But that is more something used for field work. When the hand speed control is used, the split brakes are available. Using it may take some practice ;-)

Now a split diff is really the best for traction if you have it available.

That ruled out the Kabotas and the Mahindra 1533HST immediately. I want forward/backward pedals. Not a treadle pedal. And especially not with the split brakes on the same side.

Are you sure the LS doesn't have position control in that size range? That doesn't sound right to me

XG3135H it's listed as manual control and pictures show no 1-10 decal beside lever.

The XR3135H has position control.

The XG is a few thousand more than the Kioti which puts it in par with the Mahindra 2538HST.

I didn't price the XR. I assume it's considerably more money, comparable perhaps to the Mahindra 1533HST.

I used an old Ferguson tractor for 25yrs. Used the split brakes a lot, especially when moving snow. One wheel would always spin when pushing into a snow pile. When I got my Mahindra, I figured I'd really miss the split brakes because it's virtually impossible to use the brake and the go pedal together both being on the same side. I was WRONG.With 4wheel drive, i dont break traction that much and when I do I step on the diff lock pedal.I've never unlocked bar that holds the two brake pedals together.Lack of split brakes is absolutely a 'nothing Burger'.

Thank you! I appreciate the "real world" experience!

Barring some new revelation, I'm decided on the Kioti. I'm just in a holding pattern for a couple months because I won't have time to use it for a while.

I am not trying to sell an LS here, but I found this in the "more specifications" Ergonomically Designed 3-Point Hitch Controls

Easily accessible for maximum comfort and convenience with hydraulic position control.

The thing about web sites is they all suck big time when you are trying to compare feature for feature. I think they do this on purpose. :)
