The granite I'm spitting is glacial debris left in drumlin formations. I have found the long holes do work better but the results are still varied. Usually I can get one good section from the center of the rock.

Drilling the holes is not hard and neither is placing the feathers and wedges. Tapping the wedges is not hard either.In fact this portion of the work is very rewarding when the hammer note goes from Ching to chunk and a crack appears between the drilled holes.
