It's hard to diagnose because we don't have the problem. And most people don't. My only ideas revolve around either 1) Your ISP is doing something funny like a proxy-server or something to check cookiees, or 2) Your PC has _something_ built in that is killing cookies before it should be.

I have this with just about every site I go to, including ebay. I can get on without having to log in, but then I'll get a time out message, and I'm not logged in anymore. I sign back in and everything is fine. It doesn't happen at the same time, and not always on the same websites.

I figured it was a virus or spyware, so I ran Avast and Spybot. I found all sorts of problems, but it's only better now. I still have issues and I'm convinced it's in my cookies. I just haven't been able to get rid of it yet.

My problem is now cured and I have remained logged in for the last 3 weeks without logging in or out. :)

I went to Microsoft.com and downloaded all the new critical updates for my version of windows XP and my computer is not automatically logging out of websites anymore.

I don't know which update did the trick but that is all I did to stop from logging out on TBN. My son, who works on computers, told me to do this to cure my problem as he has corrected many other peoples computers the same way when they aren't set to automatically download windows updates.

This problem i still occuring regularly, and I see from other threads that it's not just me.

Is there anything I can do to help debug this? It's really agravating, and I only have it with TBN.

I thought it was just me...

I have a new problem, pictures and avatars are not showing up. I aslo can't reply to a post every time unless I right click on it and then hit, "open link", which give me the reply with a quote in it.

I'm sure it's my computer, but I'm not sure what I have wrong to fix it.

I just got logged out twice in teh past 5 minutes. The first time I was changing forums, and the second time I was returning to the forum after reading a thread.

Both times after I logged back in the welcome box says the last time I visited was this morning. It appears to not recognize that I logged in this evening, even though I did twice.

It just happened again when returning to the index from reading a thread using "back" button.

I understand... happens to me too... at various times.. typically, I log in, see something I wish to reply to...a thread I'm subscribed to... and if I have a paragraph or so of answer, I " submit reply" and am told that I've accessed an unknown thread.... etc.... so, I have to back up, copy what I wrote, sign in again, then find the thread again, then PASTE my reply and get out fast so it is recognized.

Also, hayden, your various posts are NOT being recognized.... you have the same number showing for your last 5 or so posts... interesting...

In my case, situation even moved from an XP machine (which I died) to a VISTA laptop which I bought and loaded with FIREFOX, etc... I've just learned to live with it..... sometimes, I stay logged on for quite a while.. maybe 10% of the time... and the rest of the time, it logs me off rather quickly.

I think that's normal behavior. Your member type, number of posts, etc always reflects the latest. If you go back and re-read old posts they will show the current number of posts, your current thumbnail, etc.

The logouts, on the other hand..... Something is clearly amiss - we just don't know what. I figure I'll report each and every one. Maybe it will show a trend, or maybe it will just be annoying enough that we'll have to figure out how to fix it.

That didn't take long. I just got logged out again. This time I was changing to a new forum using the Forum Jump drop down list at the bottom of the page.

I can't possibly report on each time it happens to me... I use FIREFOX and went to a different tab and did some stuff... maybe 20 minutes, then decided to check TBN again... yep, had to log in again...

TexasJohn & others,

I can tell you that in almost 99% of the cases, this random logged off problem is due to some setting that is either erasing cookies or blocking cookies.

I use Firefox myself and do not have to re-login for many months. If I run some of the "tune up" or "cleanup" utilities, I often "lose" my cookies at TBN and elsewhere.

It may be a setting that is imposed along with a "freebie" or a Windows auto update; or an anti-virus program, or, who knows???

Upwards of a half a million people regularly come to TBN each month and log in automatically without any problem. If everyone wa shaving the proboem, we would have heard about it from more than a few people.

Also, you could check your IE or Firefox cookies settings, just to make absolutely sure you are not "clearing" logins at each exit from yuor browser. Even though you "think" it is not happening, some obscure program may have changed the setting on you.

Then you want to un AdAware of Spybot ro one of the crapware utilities.

I truly wish I could be of more help. From time to time almost all of us come across one of those dad-gummed problems that we just can't seem to fix.

You should also take a look at your "Load on startup" or "Run at startup" programs, because there may be some utility starting that does not show itself, and works in the background to dump you out.

Hakim I also have the same problem with log outs that Hayden and the others are having. It has happened twice today in the last hour. I don’t question what you are saying a bit, I just find it strange that TBN is the only place it happens to me. Next week we are switching from a PC to a new Mac and it will be interesting to see if the problem continues.

It's got to be those gremlins.:) As I've mentioned before, I've had the same problem, both with my old Dell and Windows XP and with this newer HP and Windows Vista, but only on TBN and only for a day or two after each time I ran Norton's SystemWorks Clean-Up. In other words, it sounds just as Hakim said, except why only TBN and why does that anomaly disappear after a day or two.

Of course, that's far from being the only thing I don't understand about these computers.:D

I just got dumped again while changing pages on a thread. My virus scanner is paused. Interestingly, I usually get logged back in fine when I exit IE and then return to TBN. The same is true coming out of hibernation, as well as switching ISPs. Switching threads seems to be where I get hit.

I can attest how frustrating this is. It's happening to me at work in the last couple of months. Home is fine and my work laptop is fine if I'm not on our network, therefor I attribute it to work filters/firewalls/systems/whatever... at least in my case. Have you tried a different browser? I switched to Firefox last year and have been very happy. If not Firefox, maybe something else? If not that, who knows ? ? ? I wish I could help more, mostly just empathizing with you...

Just happened again. This time while opening the Manage Attachments box while doing a post.

   / Spontaneous logouts #38
well, typically, if I don't do some sort of TBN activity rather quckly, I run into a spontaneous logout.... however, just went away for 2 hrs or so and came back... was still logged in....

Net...somtimes it happens to me, sometimes not...completely unpredictable as far as I can tell.

Hakim, I understand everything you are saying... as far as I know all types of cookies are enabled... not cleared at exit... am using COMODO SAFE SURF, COMODO FIREWALL, AVAST antivirus.

   / Spontaneous logouts #39
I've noted that I have FIREFOX in my STARTUP folder... and TBN as my home page... and, SOMETIMES it comes up and automatically logs me in...yet sometimes it simply presents me with a login opportunity.

Wonder if this has anything to do with anything:confused:

I have the same problem - with only TBN - I remember having this problem at a different forum and eventually the admin figured out that it was a problem with the forum SW. I am running IE7.

Maybe this problem is specific to what color tractor you drive:D

Mines green, but not JD green!
