I restore tractors. There are varying degrees and thicknesses of oil and dirt mix. I typically I use Diesel fuel to start with, give it some time and reapply where needed. Then I use the hot water pressure washer with the soap injector hose in simple green (alcohol). Then close the soap valve and rinse. Finally blow dry. Solving the question of putting away wet. If the hoses and other rubber components can’t take a controlled use of Diesel or other solvent they aren’t going to work very long carrying it inside or outside if you get fuel leak. Kind of a far fetched concern.
Then after disassembly I may use the hot water pressure washer with caustic soda for stripping of steel or cast iron components.
