Sprayer Sprayer problem

I have a 25 gallon sprayer with an electric pump, which has always worked flawlessly. Over the weekend I spent 3 hours trying to get it working with no luck. I first tried getting power from the wires under the seat of my BX, but had no luck there. I then clipped the wires directly to the battery, and even tried the battery in my truck all with the same result.

My question....has anyone heard of these electric pumps just up and quitting after sitting for an extended period of time? Is there something I might be able to do to fix it, or do I just need to replace it? Thanks.

Those motors do stick now and then. especially the brush types.
Hook it to power.. rap it with a screwdriver.. see if that helps. If not.. if you can partially disassemble it.. try to get an endcap off.. If it is not totally gone.. try to get the armature unstuck.. perhaps penetrating oil.. etc.. super fine sandpaper onthe brush and commie...

Some have replaceable shaft seals.. some don't.

I agree with Soundguy, and those pumps are actually pretty easy to disassemble, clean and/or repair.

3 outta 3 on the opinion that they can be repaired/cleaned/serviced. Round-up (glyphosate) and liquid fertilizers are very corrosive. (Usually salt-based) When spraying, the mist will get in the pump motor, causing havoc later.

Does the motor get warm, hum or slightly vibrate when you apply the voltage? Turn on your lights while you apply the voltage....do the lights dim down some? If none of these things happen, you have no current flow indicating an open. If not an open, like the others fellas say... get that armature spinning manually.

Thanks for the help everyone. Over my lunch break today I disassembled the pump. Everything was free inside. I had a lot of fun trying to get the magnets/springs back over the round copper piece (whatever it's called). /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Finally got it all back together, hooked it up to a battery again, and still nothing.

Out of frustration I unhooked the wires on the pump again and put them back on, working on the contact. After this, the pump worked. There was apparently some light corrosion blocking the circuit that didn't work through the first time I wiggled the wiring.
