In the other thread about our first signs of spring, there were several people who mentioned Spring Peepers. Last night during a warm 48* rain I noticed we had some visitors. We haven't heard any singing from Peepers yet this year, and these little guys were doing more "peeping tom" action than anything.

Common' couldn't find a bird of some sort, what are you tryin' to do with the bear?? Trying to teach them to fend off predators on there own or making them think they are bears??;)

Heard them for the first time 2 nights ago, went to sleep listening to their music last night. The daffs are budding, teh Hellebore is blooming, and doggone it, our 6-month-long spring is starting:laughing:

It's not quite that nice here yet. We're expecting 5 - 10" of snow tonight and tomorrow. But it's nice to get some warmer days between cold spells now. It won't be long! :)

The instructions that came with the chicks said "you must provide them with the bear necessities", so I did.

They were out in force last night, in the pounding snow.

We won't hear anything out of them for awhile yet. When we do get them, the sound is so strong it hurts the ears. If we go out in our yard on a busy peeper night we can not even carry on a conversation, not even with yelling. Of course this changes just like a switch once one of them feels something is wrong, owls seem to shut them up real quick.

When I was little, my mom always used to call them 'froggie peepers'.

Then, in early high school, I was told frogs don't do that - they were bugs.

So, they really ARE froggies, eh?

yes there spring peepers (small tree frogs) we have a lot of them in areas where the pesticides haven't done em in yet. We have a really nice chorus of them early evenings on warm spring time nights. (reason they are called spring peepers.)

I usually have collected a dozen or so on a pass along the woods when mowing & toss em back in the woods to keep them from seeing the inside of the mower... ;)

Where I grew up, and where I live now, the chorus is almost deafening! It was so cute, when I was a kid - thinking of little frogs doing this......then it got ripped away.....

Now the cuteness is back....:)
