You know how people are always taking a picture of their baby sitting in the wildflowers? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Bill we have to be thankfull that days like these only come a couple of times in the spring and in the fall. If we didn't have our tornados and that sunshine in the summer along with the wind in the winter it'd be like NYC. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This is the view I get working up here a mile the way the crow flies from the Red River.

The Red Bud is about sixty years old. The lady who lives here planted it soon after she moved in, 1939. The Post Oak framing it in the picture is the second largest Post Oak in Texas, which we know is the known world. It's been estimated at seven hundred and fifty years old.

I find it fascinating to stand in the shade of a tree that was an adult two hundred years before Columbus wore diapers.

Harv,

Those are two fabulous trees. I'm sure that the lady of the house feels like they are family after 64 years together. Quite a heritage.

We saw lots of red buds in full bloom driving down 281 from Hico to Burnet (my favorite drive) this past weekend, some as big as that one. The flowers aren't in full bloom yet until you get all the way down to Marble Falls. Bluebonnets are in control in most places this year, and the yucca is in full blossom all over Backbone Ridge.

Any season in the Hill Country is a blessing, but spring has to be my favorite. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

John,

They're pretty now, but they get pretty scraggly after they go to seed in a few weeks. Then we'll put the new cutter through it's paces.

Did you notice how the Indian Paintbrush is Kubota Orange this year? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bill, you had me concerned with the first picture. The photo's edge did not show the back end of the mowing deck. I'm glad to see by your later post that there wasn't a level path behind the deck.

Bill, I just saw your pictures and your paintbrush is super. Did you get some of that heavy weather and hail last night? I was hoping for some rain this weekend, but the storms went north and south of me. We hardly got a sprinkle, but DFW got heavy rains and hail. I hope your paintbrush didn't get beat up. I checked my bluebonnets today and they are just starting to bloom. We are about two weeks behind you. ...and I did notice the nice paint color matching. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Jinman,

Just left Keller Texas Saturday around 3:00pm. Got out of there just before the storm. We were down there getting my son's junk out of college. He can't store the stuff over the summer.

Anyway tell me what the trees are down there with all of the blue/purple flowers on them. There is also blue flowers in the fields. My wife would like to know what they are. She really liked them. Nothing I have seen around here in Minnesota.

If they looked something like this they are bluebonnets, for which Texas is famous. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Murph, I'm sure you saw the wisteria vines. They have purple/blue flowers that look like bunches of grapes (see attachment). They are in full bloom right now. They grow on long vines like grapes and are common throughout the south. Also, the redbud trees have purplish blooms, but if you look at Wrought Iron Harv's post earlier in this thread, you will see one of those.

Keller? College? I thought the only thing in Keller was lots of "old style" buildings with Austin stone and brick. I'm curious about which college your son is in? TCU? NTSU?

Thanks for the information. I will pass that on to my wife. The college my son is in is actually in Longview. It is Letourneau College. We went there to get his stuff as he couldn't keep it there over the summer. Then we went to my sister n laws in Keller. So we kind of killed two birds with one stone.

Jinman,

My tractor lives at my in-law's place near Marble Falls, about 2 miles as the crow flies or 6 miles by road from our property, and the paintbrush is in their yard. I don't think they've had any weather down there. In fact, we didn't have any hail or rain from the Saturday night storms here in Garland.

I've attached a picture that shows how I get Larry back and forth from the shed to the ridge. If all the neighbors didn't mind and would open their gates, I would just drive him the 2 miles. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
