Got any picture?

One of my zuke plants was looking ill the day before yesterday and dead today and the other 2 Zukes are looking ill today. A couple of the leaves has what looks like mildew on them. Just wondering if it was the same thing.

No, I don't have a picture, but when the plant succombs, it just droops down like it has no water for a month. Your mildew looking stuff sounds like exactly that or a mold due to too much water. You've had torrential rains recently haven't you?

Yup, thanks. I shouldn't have said the one was dead today, just extremely droopy.

It's not an all bad thing, we were running out of enemies to leave zukes on there porches at night.

We had our fill of kabocha through fall, winter, and spring until the wife got tired of the plants and weed eated em. Now there is a volunteer replacement that is blossomed and fruiting. Great addition to soups, steamed and mashed, baked with maple syrup and butter... even deep fried it like french fries once, but does not crisp like potatoes.

For dinner today I grilled 2 pipinola (chayote) sliced and drizzled with olive oil, salt & pepper, and italian seasoning. Served with a couple of ribeyes. I don't peel them, but cut it off as I eat it. Mixed with the cut up meat trimming, the dogs seem to enjoy it also as they lick their plates clean. Wife was teasing me about leaving in the seed, but I like the nutty flavor. Have been told the young shoots are excellent in salad or stir fry but haven't tried yet.

I have no idea what these things are, but manoman do you make them sound good!

The chayote is called mirliton here but pronounced mel-a-ton. My wife fixes what we call a mirliton dressing containing either shrimp or heavily smoked bacon. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm:licking:

I had an old huge bush at my old house that produced more than we could ever eat and give away and I have been trying to get a bush going here for the last 5 years but between the squirrels, hurricanes, floods and droughts I have been unsuccessful so far. And the bad part is that they are extremely hard to find in the stores here so you have to know someone with a vine to get any.
