Staining Pressure Treated Wood

This is a great subject, and always hard to know what to do. I reckon my yellow pine treated deck installed in 1980 should be cured enough. Thing looks awful, but still strong. They must've used some nuclear powered stuff back then! I'd still like to do something to it though.

If you have a pressure washer, try washing it with it. It'll bring back all the wood character.

The stuff they use to pressure treat lumber with today is crap. I have had to replace deck steps (5 1/4 boards) that are only 8 yrs old. This stuff should last 20 yrs or more. EPA at it again !

I don’t remember what brand it was but I stained my deck with some fairly expensive stuff guaranteed for 7 years. I built the deck in 2011 and stained it the same year. The stain still looks good. So it’ll easily outlast the rating.

I have to say that after 8 months the pressure treated lumber of the shower has no signs of curing -- it looks like it just left the lumber yard. Same with the deck on my trailer. I waited a year to paint my Adirondack chairs and the paint didn't stick all that well. So I may take the advice of just letting it age naturally for a long while. After all, I want it to match the gray of the buildings behind it.
