I think that would require 2 people, right? One to put in the stakes and one to move the tractor forward. Or else he will be getting on and off the tractor a LOT of times. 3-5,000 stakes was the target. Now, if you did have two people, your idea does sound slick as can be.

Now if you made the 3pt attachment with a seat and a pole storage area so a person could ride on it and flip in the stakes, I bet you could do 5000 in a single day. And not break a sweat!

There is the farmer and his son. I think that would be the idea to have some type of platform to stand on or even better, to sit down on. Then the son could feed the critter while dad drove and popped them into the ground.

The side(feed) tube would be accessible from the tractor seat. See the attached drawing. This could work for fence post, but the range of motion isn't there.

There is one more issue here that I didn't think about. I believ that all his tractors are standard shift. His left knee is going to fall off if he is clutching all day long to drive stakes.

I also noticed that they were 4 ft long. Assuming they only go in 1 ft, that is a bit of movement. It may not work out like I thought.

One third thought, I think it would. Email me if you want to discuss.

The push tube would need to be shorter than I showed, and there would have to be some sort of stake guidance(to keep them vertical).

A new HST tractor always needs to be justified!:)

OK, I will shut up.

OK, one more thing.

If he put marks on his tires, he would have a built in spacing indicator.

That's what the kid's for!

On the design, I think it would be best with either a platform or seat. If the old guy is back there, the seat. Clutching, stopping, twisting around to put in a post 5000 times does not sound like fun! Nor would it be as quick at 2 people. I do like the idea of paint on the front tire to mark distance.

Anybody got an HST tractor that the old guy can borrow for a day?
