Good points Eddie. I marked the spots for the television but need to run some wires for my surround sound.

Not sure what they are using for the plumbing, I think it's copper but don't remember the details. I ran a two inch line to the front of the house with shut off and they are taking it from there.

Thanks for the info about CFL's, that was really interesting reading.

While I mostly like to use CFL's in the house, I don't like the gov't telling me I HAVE to use them. They put out a different light, and I still like to go "old school" sometimes.

I need to make a stock-pile before they are history.

Ok Saltman. We need an update. The last pic shows a framed house with sheathing. What's the latest? I'm going to bring this thread back to life and put it at the top!:D

Good grief, all those fees on top of Kalifornia's ridiculous income tax, don't any of those bureaucrats realize when you put such a burden on the economy you choke it, the wheels stop turning, and the government goes broke? Obviously not...

I think I paid a $25 septic permit fee when I built my $230K house. I thought that was terrible. Property taxes are about $5700 a year, which I still think is terrible. Income taxes.......zero.

The only saving grace in California is Prop 13, which limits your property tax to appx 1% of property value (i.e sales price) Was going to buy some units in College Station, but then found out that the property tax rate was closer to 3% of appraised value(appraised value=How much did you say we needed this year Clem?) But I still see Texas as the place to be in the future, lower taxes, pro business, pro growth.

One way or another, the Gummint will screw money out of you. Yep, I think $5,700 for property taxes is ridiculous; but at least you have no state income tax. As I understand it, you would pay about the same in New Jersey for property taxes as you do now, plus state income taxes on top of that.

YEP, the ole gov'ment is gonna get their money from you one way or another. THat said, some states have more favorable tax laws to retired folks. While most states have state income tax, usually their property taxes are lower than those states that dont have state income tax(Texas is one). I am moving from Texas to Arkansas and even though Arkansas has a state income tax, I think I will be better off when I retire there because property taxes are so much lower. Since my income will be much less, the state tax on it will be minimal. Texas property taxes continue to go up and up every year so that big tax bill will continue to grow. My retirement income will be pretty much fixed so that will remain low(hopefully). I hear that some states, Floriday I believe is one, will let retirement folks live state income tax free, but there is too many hurricanes there for me.

Well a lot has happened since my last post. Everything went pretty good until the roofer went out of business, this was a delay since nothing on the inside can be done until the roof is on. Meanwhile, the place is "weather tight" with tar paper and caulked penetrations, it survived the last storm pretty well.

They are putting the siding on tomorrow, did the window trim last week, had the rough plumbing and rough electrical done for weeks now, I had my "solar inspection" and go the ok to fill the 7 foot footing with concrete, and I put my 12 foot schedule 80 steel pole in place and plan on pouring the footing/ hole this coming weekend. I had the Propane guy come out and make me a 57 foot line, had some backhoe work done and just unrolled the propane line, done in about 5- min. then back filled.

So the plan now is roofing to start this weekend, roofing was ordered prior to the guy going out of business, the general is paying for it and we found another co. to do the metal roofing. Once the roof is on, they will start insulation and drywall.

Here are a few photos.
