Metric bolts are available just about any hardware store. Are you in the states?
Take one off and match up

I the tractor shop i got they say they have got any thin threaded bolts. No i live in France . i found some online , might get them . With the starter i took it off the tractor and put negative on the frame of the starter and the positive on the one that you told me too and it spun fine then when i put it o nthe tractor and tried it , it just sparked and didn 't turn . what could be the problem ?
Thanks
T

What just sparked? Your cables may be too small or corrosion on the battery terminals.
However, you say the tractor has been sitting a long time? Can you turn the engine over with a wrench on the crankshaft or a screwdriver on the flywheel teeth with the starter removed?

Yeah just sparked like the starter was seized . yeah the engine turns over alright so don't what wrong but don't want to damage the battery(it's fairly new ) .

If the starter spun when "bench tested" then it is okay. Did the Bendix (gear on the starter) pushout when you did this? I think the starter motor is fine, but your solenoid (round piece on top of starter) may be bad.

There's no solenoid on it , so i just put pushout the bendix by hand. For some reason the starter won't turn the fly wheel . Should i try using bigger cabbles then .

I don't understand. No solenoid, but you can push the bendix out by hand? Can you post a picture of what you are working with?

Ok . i send a picture later or tomorrow . By the way the starter turns rounds not as fast as normal starters . is that normal ? is there a rebuild kit for a perkins 4.236 starter motor ?
Thanks
Toby

It would be cheaper to just buy a starter. The starter turning over slow could be a bad connection on the solenoid or bad windings/brushes on the motor itself.
