Well, we are now living in Idaho at my brothers ranch. He already put me to work feeding cows and plumbing his house.

There have been several delays on the buyers actually closing the deal. It's the lenders slowing the whole thing down but according to the title company doing it all we should be done tomorrow with everything. It's a good thing because I have a well driller lined up to start drilling Wednesday. It would be nice to own the property before they start drilling. So a little stressing right now but it'll all work out in the end.

When they are drilling I'll get some pictures.

Drillers think we'll be in good water at 80'-90' and put the pump at 40'. They are drilling a well right now just a few hundred yards from where my well would be. The water in the well comes up to about 5' from the surface. I am going to have them put a hand pump on the well head also. ( just incase of a power outage sometime in the future)

I was going to put a basement in until yesterday. I think maybe a tall crawl space or something like that. I'd still like some storage area of some sort.

Good for your nephew, now you have a place to stay when you come west.

We are going to start building as soon as possible. We still have not picked out a floor plan, but it'll be soon.

On moving; I'm not doing this again. If we were to move, everything goes with the house and we buy all new.

I built in a location with high water table... it was in a meadow.

Put in a 3/4 basement using all the techniques to water proof in 1982 and so far so good.

Techniques included water proof membrane, tar sealant, higher cement ratio in concrete and plenty of french drains to a small creek.

To me, the expense of a tall crawl vs a full 8'...... Could you make that decision when the excavator is on site digging to observe any groundwater. "Pushing" a house upward above g/w concerns while still maintaining an 8' basement can be done (to a point) with extra grading (fill) & landscaping to make it appear natural or normal. For the added few bucks for the concrete itself, the labor should be the same or possibly cheaper to a poured foundation guy. He'll be able to use his normal panels. A block bsmt. is just 8" increments, but normal headroom for all your mechanicals and storage would be a nice. Does your site allow a "walkout" bsmt?

I don't understand the advantage to having a crawl space or building pier and beam if you don't have to? A properly designed slab removes a long list of issues that wood subfloors have, it's easier to insulate, and nothing ever lives under the house. I can understand a basement, but never a pier and beam foundation over a slab.
