Are you using Comp Shingles and if you are is there any issue installing in cold weather?

Long time ago I was told at a certain point it can be too cold?

They are the architectural grade shingles 35ish year warranty.

I was told as long as the temp's get to 45 degrees they will tab down. Next week is supposed to be around 50 degrees and the fact they are very dark I think I'll be fine.

I thought of you this last week as I drove up the I-15 through southern Idaho heading to the I-90. I kept looking out over the fields for new construction, I'm glad things are moving along so well for you!

Thanks joeyd,

So far it seems I'm waiting for parts/supplies more than subs. I'm waiting for doors/windows right now, will be another week at least.

FYI... I'm located northwest of Bear Lake.

I'm surprised that you are using shingles, did you look at steel?

When I re-roofed my house I was talked out of metal. The roofers said there is too much moisture buildup under metal roofs in my (wet) climate. I do not know what the correct story is but the composition roof I had put on may outlast me anyway.

It also seems metal would be hard to walk on when wet, but composition still gives you traction.

I was going to use steel but was talked out of it by several different builders. If the roof had straight drops (no valleys) then metal would have been the way to go. My roof has valleys and the freeze/thaw cycle gets under the metal. That's why I'm not using metal.

That makes sense. Diligence is required in valleys.

Here's some pictures of the fireplace. On the back the bigger line is combustion air, the other one is cooling air for the flue pipe.

The last picture is why we need a fireplace to begin with.

Would you ever need to get into the space behind the fireplace?

I have bought homes where rodents gnawed through heater ducts and made a mess... one was in a concealed space.

Anything I do in concealed inaccessible areas is with hard duct as a precaution...

Not saying your area has a rodent problem but it looks like significant space being walled up.
