Very nice Lynn, you'll be sledding soon! I also like the idea of a small access to that space behind the fireplace that I would suspect would matter the purpose of the space/room that the access is in.

Would you ever need to get into the space behind the fireplace?

I have bought homes where rodents gnawed through heater ducts and made a mess... one was in a concealed space.

Anything I do in concealed inaccessible areas is with hard duct as a precaution...

Not saying your area has a rodent problem but it looks like significant space being walled up.
The extra space appears to me to be the result of an architectural design feature.

Access to anything behind/above/below is always a nice design feature. At Boeing, we called it DFM (Design For Maintenance). For many years, the engineers thought only about performance and maybe manufacturing ease, but rarely maintenance.

Looking good, Lynn!

Yep... looking real good.

Since I have often been called in to troubleshoot problems my eye is more towards service after the fact... but, so far with the exception of some plumbing there has been little need...

35 years ago I was putting pans under water heaters in apartments piped to daylight or using safety wire to secure sections of p-traps together so the slip joints won't slip in rentals... also capping the water heater sediment tank drain hydrants... or double coverage 30# felt under my comp shingles...

One thing that has come in real handy in apartments is shut off valves in the wall for showers... small ball valves to stem the flow should a cartridge replacement be necessary as opposed to turning off water to 20 units to work on one... a big fan of isolation valves!

I would not anticipate any rodent problems, that is why the crawl space is all concrete. We will of coarse have traps set anyway, just to be sure.

Looks like that fireplace will give you some joy. Looks like the snow is closing in on you.
Thanks for sharing.

Update;

The roof is shingled! Took 4 guys one day and it was done.

4 way inspection is done. (and passed:thumbsup:)

The windows are supposed to be installed today. Hopefully the doors show up this week. Insulation will go in today as well as sheetrock delivery. The gas line has been connected to the house and the trench buried.

There is still some concrete work, entry steps and pads nothing major. That could happen this week.

I'll get some pictures.:)

Amazing... I'm sure glad we didn't have a bet as you would win hands down.

The holidays in the new place... love it when a plan comes together and congratulations to you.
