Narural wood is timeless, white is just today's fad and usually way cheaper.

Here is a better picture of the fireplace.

Side angle shot of the shelves. Nails will be pulled and holes filled next time the rock dudes are in the area.

Very nice! I want to tear off our 12x12 slate tiles that only go up 4ft and go with stone all the way to the ceiling. My wife wants outcroppings like yours to add candles or other small ornaments in a random fashion. Our layout is very close to yours. In a corner with a sloping ceiling.

We just haven't chosen the rock yet... too many choices and my wife has a hard time making a decision. I have the tile saw and all the other tools I need just waiting for the 'command'! :D

It took us some time to pick the stone we got. The only thing we new for sure was we wanted a gray toned color.

Good luck and post some pictures. You'll have to hurry to beat the time it took to do mine. One day, started at 9am packed up and gone by 6pm. There were 3 guys though.

I'm betting that within four-n-a-half months from move in your wife will have 'taken over' at least one of those ledges.

Oh mine will be a DIY job with assistance from the wife. At my rate (pace and pay rate) I can guarantee it will be a weekend job and then a few weeks more at least to finish the remaining 1%. :laughing:

Lynn, what was the material used behind the stone?

Forgive my lack of the right terms;

They stapled up some wire mesh, mixed up some commercial grade quickcrete, smeared the concrete on the back of the rocks and smashed them into place. It was all very simple. They were very particular on which stone went where. They did a lot of cutting and chipping to get the rocks just right.

They did suggest that I wait a couple weeks then wash the rock faces off with water, let it dry, then wash with water and a small amount of muriatic acid mixed in. Then wash again with plain water. Said it would really bring out all the color in the rocks.

Not going to take that bet, but I'll bet it will not take 4.5 months.:laughing:

Wow, love it, especially the wood, and the rock.

Thanks buckeye,

I think once the "Black Leather Granite" counter tops are in place it will all look really good.

My wife is real happy/excited. Our past homes all looked like they were furnished and color coordinated by a 4 year old.:laughing:
