The EPA certified wood inserts are expensive, I can vouch for that. I bought mine last year after moving in in 2016 but in my house a traditional wood stove would not work. Mine has a CAT which makes it even more $. Local codes require new stoves to be EPA certified.

EPA CAT stoves were at one time allowed here in the Bay Area but even these have not escaped the ban for new installs.

I have two Buck Inserts with CATs and they work very well... both were pre-existing and professionally installed.


I hope the rumors of having to yank out wood stoves and brick up chimneys upon ownership transfer do not come to pass but a large contingent is pushing for this.

The problem happened about 2 weeks ago when we said "ok" deliver. They found the cook top was the wrong one and the washing machine had damage to the finish. They have been unable to get another cook top. Nothing is that out of the ordinary. We ordered everything based on floor models we seen at their store.

Makes sense... and around the holidays things rarely go as planned... at least in my experience.

Better to catch it now.

One of my owner builder friends had a lot of problems on one build... he did the whole house order which included two kitchens, etc... when he scheduled delivery he learned both of "HIS" wall ovens had been sold and now back ordered... thing is he saw the ovens in stock when he bought... supply chain games.

He did get a concession... the price of one of the microwaves was refunded.

He was more than fair but a stickler too... as a flooring contractor he was not shy about asking for concessions based on the contract... Mills would often shift production to optimize output... sometimes he would have to go to his customer with the bad news but the mills often made it right... with expedited delivery or financial consideration.

As a property manager I know there would be H*ll to pay if a tenant was not able to cook during the Holidays... even if I had to provide something temporary or a gift certificate.

Update;

We are going to pick up our cook top today. If we get back in time I'll put it in. That is the last thing to do. The house is done and we will start moving in tomorrow. After the cook top is in I'll get some pictures. All the contractors that have worked on the house really like what we have done and the color coordination. It will sure be a relief to get moved in.

We are having it professionally cleaned so maybe I'll wait for pictures until that's done. (tomorrow)
