I have a 20' equipment trailer that I need to re-register. I have heard that a (non-camper) trailer can be registered in the State of Maine, even if you are not a resident. Supposed to be really cheap. Has anyone here done that?

Gyro,
I have had my triple axle trailer registered in Maine for the last three plus years. I go thru www.mainetrailer.com I do not want to go into the tax issue on this site, but as you probably know, New York State does not make it very practical to keep things registered here. The people at Maine Trailer are very nice. Your cheapest route is to title and get a 2 year registration. With out digging out my paperwork, I can not remember what month the registrations come due. I think it might be February. You may want to ask them about that. You would not want to register in January and have it come due in February. PM me if you want to discuss the title or tax end of things.

Just make sure you can prove you took it out of state at least once in each registration year. The State is coming down on the out of state registrations. If it never leaves NY you hvae to plate it in NY.
Where are you in Hamilton CO? I used to live in Long Lake.
And make sure you are totally legal. I know someone that registers in Maine, and when he gets pulled over, they give him a thorough lookover because of it. I think the state police take it a lttle personal.
