Staying cool in rural areas

Those bluegill are mean little buggers. I was in the pond last night working on the floating dock for about 30 mintues and was bitten quite a few times. These guys are no more than 6 inches long.

Even though we don't get too hot, like mid 90s this weekend, I find the best way to stay cool at home is with a blended ice drink like a daiquiri (margarita with rum instead of tequila). We all drink them except the kids get no rum and even the adults drop the rum after a point. Sit in the shade, feet in the kiddie pool and life is good. Just be careful about the brain freezes.

I hear the buzz and hum of our neighbor's AC unit and actually think they are wimps.

When I am out working on the tractor I will get too hot and need to find a spot in the shade and rest while drinking a cold beverage. The tractor engine doesn't overheat but the trans oil gets notably warmer. I wonder why they don't provide a trans temp gauge like on the dozer.

I use an old humidifier adjusted for max. output and place in in front of a fan blowing on me at work in an un-airconditioned tire plant. The past two weeks have been in the upper 90's with a couple 100's thrown in. I feel lots better than I use to after work.

It was 113 here yesterday. My daughter got in the pool to get wet, got on her bike and let the chocolate lab (on leash) pull her up and down the lane a few times so breeze would blow over wet bathing suit, jumped back in pool and did it over again. T'was funny at first but poor dog almost had heat stroke though, laid on floor afterwards panting and shaking.

Tom H, I wouldn't let her do that with the Lab in hot weather. He will have a heat stroke attack. Dogs overheat quickly when it is real hot out.

Dozer is overheating, but I got the dump truck running today with a new carberator. Did some test laps in the heat to make sure I had power again and it's looking good.

That's cooler than I keep my house this time of year.... 77-81 degrees depending on my mood, last month's bill, and just wether I am ornery today.

Only 93 right now supposed to peak at 100.00 again for the third day....

Rob,

Naw, that's my little 3/4 acre pond by the house. I put some Channel Cats and Coppernose Bluegill in it this year and was bit three times that day!!! Guess I'd make good bait if I was on a hook. hahahaha

The lake is coming along slowly. Dozer is overheating, but I got the dump truck running today with a new carberator. Did some test laps in the heat to make sure I had power again and it's looking good.

Tomorrow I'll enjoy the heat either in my backhoe or the dumptruck. My dad is here, so we might even trade off. hahaha Hows that sound for a fun way to beat the heat!!!!!

Eddie

I'm afraid the channel cats, bluegill, and bass aren't gonig to survive my pond if it don't rain. I have probably lost 60% of the water in it, I think its about 6 feet deep right now and bad looking weeds are starting to take over. I try to pump some water in, but I can hardly put a dent in the decline.
