Much of the 2004 inventory was ordered at a steel price of $280 a ton. The current world price is $700-800 a ton and in the USA it is still around $1,000. Many of the hay equipment MFG's in Europe will have big increases in price next year. Also the EU has started adding the countries Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia. Many of the European MFG's have used these countries to outsource components and reduce their MFG costs. The EU is fighting hard to keep Asian imports to a minimum. So expect higher prices on EU implements from Italy, Germany, France, etc.
The key is puchase now before the current inventory is gone.

On a related note, a California man is now in the final stages of setting up a Chinese automobile dealership. Economy models retailing for under 10,000 USD.

This oughta stir up a pot or two.

With the increases in steel and oil prices I think we can expect a sizeable jump in inflation and All prices will jump due to the involvement of oil and steel into the manufacturing and delivery of most items. Thanks for the specific heads up of AG equipment.

Many pots was already started to be stirred a year ago.
China will become the only MFG in the world sooner or later. This cannot be avoided. Don't hurry up to buy any implements till the end of 2004. China implements will spread till then to gain the market shares in the world. Then, starting in 2005, Chinese Mfgs will start to raise their prices slowly once they feel they are controlling manufacturing field. I say this is their right. Let them Chinese do the manufacturing work of the world. Let the country I live in do the food cooking work. Let Americans do the holy-wood work and let them buy the wood-chippers;)

I think CCI is right on about this. To put things into perspective, about a month ago I went to purchase a piece of square tubing two inch square, one eight wall thickness, ten feet long. Cost was over twenty six dollars, or two sixty a foot. Can't remember paying over a dollar a foot before. To a fellow like me that has a welder at home and likes to build things like shelving and other misc items, I will be thinking twice before starting a project in the future. I know that China has bought all the scrap steel they can find here and even one foundry here that they will move to China that I was reading about. Most all our foundry's are now closed and I can't help but wonder what will happen when all of our manufacturing is shut down. Then China can raise the prices to whatever they want and what choice will we have but to pay it. I guess then the American people will demand our foundries and machine shops be reopened.

I know this will sound political, but the idea that the US (and other countries? ) is allowing the wholesale dissassembly of complete manufacturing facilities, to tool up another country, just boggles my mind. I read a post recently where an air compressor manufacturer was shipping their tooling "over there" because the Chinese "could not make the tools" Are we (USA) nuts?!! I try and remain optimistic...
