I currently have a dump trailer with a steel deck and a deckover with a wood deck. In most cases it don't make a darn bit of difference for hauling equipment or materials. That being said more than once I have used wood and screws to hold things down on that deckover, couldn't have done that in my dump trailer.

I put a wooden scab deck on my new 20' 10K wood deck trailer and coated it with a gallon of leftover deck stain. The thought was when it gets really beat up from me putting rocks on if with the mini-ex, tractor, attachments, sun, rain etc. I'll pull the nails and replace it. Cost $100 for 4 sheets of 1/2" exterior underlayment ply and a pound of 2.5" deck nails. Tractor gets good traction, seems to be doing OK with rocks, good with loads of mulch being scaped off with the loader, probably the nails will lift a bit this winter, we'll see....

I prefer steel for stuff that sets out but when we moved a 16x10' portable building on the wood decked trailer I used 90 degree brackets and actually screwed it the trailer for no shifting. Alse screwed a 2x at either end too. For dumping steel has an edge based on using both.

Leaving the dealer now. I ended up just getting the 12000 GVWR but I did get the LED package with tool box and a few other things. Pictures when I get home.
