Hi all,
I have a charge pump issue it seems with my Sunstrand 15 unit on a Steiner S-20. Steering effort is pretty high now, and it has trouble lifting the deck off the ground. I changed the filter and it had no effect. I will check hydraulic the relief valve but I don't think that will be the issue (the issue is worse when hot - seems like a worn pump to me).
A few years ago I had successfully rebuilt the rear drive motor by lapping everything, it worked great. I have a high pressure filter setup to clean everything out once I service the drive.
It looks like there is a charge pump cover, the charge pump gears, and the surface of the pump. Is there a way to recondition these parts at home, or am I stuck replacing them? Wondering if it would be worth trying to lap the gears and the main pump casing surface (I can't lap the surface in the cover as it is recessed).
Thanks
