Step by step for turning a large tractor tire inside out?

I'm using a 38 inch rear tractor tire and need to turn it inside out to use it for a flower bed. I already have the sidewall cut out and have spent 4+ hours on attempting to invert it. I am using an 80hp JD 2930 with FEL and adjustable pallet forks.

I will try to explain my first 3 attempts: First I tried chaining one end to the top of my 3 ph dirt scoop. See attached photo.

Then I tried standing the tire up on its end in front of two round hay bales and trying to push the tire into the space between the two bales. I was able to turn half of the tire inside out, but then I placed it on the ground and attempted to finish the job, but it righted itself.

Then I drove onto the tire with my Ford 4000 and attempted to use chains to lift the cut edges and chain them into position.

Any other suggestions? I also have Case 530 backhoe that I can use in the process.

I have read on other websites about how you can place the tire in a concrete culvert and pull it through using chain tied to a rim (but I have no 48" culvert). I have also read that some people use a front end loader to invert a large tire, but I can't find a video, photo or a good description about how it is done.

YouTube has videos on turning a car tire inside out. Maybe some useful ideas there. Just have to use bigger tools

That looks to be the equivalent of shoving a wet noodle up a bobcats *** in a phone booth. Good luck op! I'm sure with persistence it will work out!

Mossroad- thanks for the link- I had seen that video but this tire is too tough to manhandle (by hand) and even begin the folding process.

Looks like he's cutting off the bead on the top side of the tire, chaining the top down over the outside of the tread, then pushing the bottom bead up and through the tire. Pretty neat! Thanks for the link. :thumbsup:

Success!!! My final attempt took about 2-3 hours...

I bolted a grain truck dual tire/wheel assembly to the top of my dirt scoop and used that as a stationary die. I then fabbed up some clamps on the sides of the tire and pulled the sidewalls down with chains using the pallet forks/front end loader. I couldn't pull from the back side, so I had to rotate the tire 180 degrees and finish up the other side. In my opinion, the end result has a very nice shape.

The only tire I have is the Michigan loader tire I flip inside-out by hand 20 times a day for exercise,,,

It is the only way I can stay looking like Dwayne Johnson without using steroids!!

Nice. I guess you were determined to geter done. What did you use to make the cuts with?

That looks a lot like how we used to do it. We had a large round tank - 45" diameter or so that we put up next to a large tree and put the bead side of the tire next to it. Then we put one chain inside the tire and put two more chains on hooked to the first - to a tractor on the other side of the tree and back to the first - so we basically had four points of pulling the tire against the tank. they popped right through. We probably had forty of these as we used them for cattle feed bunks.

I used a sawzall with a metal blade (fine toothed)

Yes, I do too. Good job. It reminds me of an artichoke some what, and will look nice full of flowers.
