I have done a few sheets by hand when I had to fix a ceiling (something about not stepping on the ceiling joists correctly when in an attic ) I have never used the sheetrock hoist but I have heard people talk about them. Most of the time now I do my repair work to houses by myself and I would not want to even try to do sheetrock that way. With me doing the ceiling in the garage it just seemed like a good time to buy one. I would buy more tools from Northern Hydraulics but their shipping costs are so out of line with priceing of items that I just refuse to buy from them the majority of the time. I want to buy a wheeled dolly from them and the price at 150.00 is good but I dont want to have to pay another 125.00 to get it shipped to me. Having this jack with free shipping was the big difference that finally pushed me into buying it.

Roger I dont know how your weather is right now but mine is attrocious. I am in OKC and supposed to go home tonight. I dont know if I am going to be able to leave tonight or maybe tomorrow or maybe the weekend. I was sure hoping this front would hold off a couple of more days before I had to drive in it :)

Roger,

Have been lurking watching your progress through the whole thread. That panel lifter is definitely a back saver. I think it was designed more for weekend warrior use than anything else. I have watched professionals put a 12' sheet up and have it secured in about 10 seconds and then go about putting in the rest of the screws.

Are you going to insulate your ceiling?

Great looking project. Hope you heal up quick.

Regards,

Mike

Bayouman: Thanks, your right the brother in-law says it faster by hand, but when he helped me with my ceiling he did say it was easier on his back, but he will stick to doing it by hand, but then again he is use to it. I am not as strong in the upper body dept. So I am glad I used the jack. I am going to blow in insulation in the attic soon, but want to get the garage door up and the wire ran 1st. Then before I mud the joints and nail wholes will do the wiring 1st then the insulation then the mudding.

Saturday I am going to try to work out there finishing up the 16ft wall and two corner, then the outlet wiring, the wife is telling me to stay put and rest, can’t do it, last week I was on the couch could not bend but this week my back is better, we will see.

Its like the garage is calling to me, “work on me finish me, you know you want to” I can not resist its call.

Hope you all stay warm, its going to be –3 to 1 above zero here, where is spring. Though our weather did not turn bad until 2 weeks ago about.

Gemini, you must have about the same weather as we have had, here we had 14 inch snow, melted then 2 inch of ice still here and snow adding on top of that every once in a while.

You all have a good weekend.

Roger

Roger we are not having weather as cold as you. I dont remember when we had three snow/ice storms in a one month period. I hope we are done with this for a while. I am not complaining though I got my garage up and in the dry while it was fairly warm to very warm. I got the new sheetrock jack today it was in my garage when I got home. I will put it together tomorrow and start useing it. I will let you know how it works. I have to get the ceiling in place tomorrow. My garage doors will be here monday and I need to have the ceiling in place so they can put the tracks up for the doors.

Gemini, burr for here in Hannibal MO. 5 this morning will be -3 tomorrow morning. we get that once a year or so. Like you I am lucky to have finished what I could this year in Nov. and Dec, it was nice weather.

I am pushing to get my wiring done before I get my door. Right now I have 4x8 sheet up blocking the opening. Are you going to put a garage door opner on yours? I was going to hang the door myself but thought I do not know what I am doing and they get a 100 bucks or so to hang it. It would take me all day so let them do it. I am getting a 18 foot wide door 8ft tall with window lights in the top row, insulated. 1/2 horse motor I thnk is what they said I should have. Push button inside for an oper and a keypad or a key card reader out side that could be on my key ring.

Good luck with the sheet rock jack, take some pictures if you have time.

Roger I have the sheetrock jack and it was worth every penny I payed for it even if i never use it again after this job. I can just put a sheet of OSB on there and jack it to the roof move it where I want and start nailing. If I get a chance I will take some pics but I am not the worlds best at finding time to do that. In some ways I am thinking I should have went with 18 foot doors. it is going to be a tight fit getting my truck in and out next to a car. but on the other hand it was a big problem getting a beam to handle the weight of the roof the way my garage is made. I just went ahead and purchased installation with the garage doors. The doors have a lifetime warranty and I did not want them to claim they were installed wrong if I have to have a warranty claim. I am getting 7 foot tall x 16 foot wide doors. I would rather have had the 8 foot door but would have run into to much of a roofline matching problem if I had done that. In answer to your question yes I am getting two garage door openers. since my garage is going to be a parking garage it would have really distracted from the usefulness if you had to get out in the rain and open a garage door.

you know it is too cold to be working in the garage or at least to early when your glass of soda frezzes in less than 40 minutes. I am trying to wait to use the propane heator becasue I do not have much propane left, 30pound in a 375000 but does not last long. I am going to run it so it just stays above 32, thats better than 0 which it was at 7:00 this morning. My wood heat feels good in the house.

Keep warm all.

Has any one run into this trouble before with their insurance company?

I called just to check if I was covered by my current insurance for my house and if it would cover the garage: It does up to 12,000, so I uped my policy to 25,000 at 2.50 per 1,000 not bad I thought until I started talking about heating. I told him wood heat, he said he could not insure it if I used wood heat in the garage. I called two other companies and they told me the same.

If any one has wood heat in the garage and have it insured how did you get around this issue. I wanted gas (which is fine) but wood for when I was in the garage working. Any ideas.

I have an idea. Do not use wood. It is very hard to get anything heated with wood insured here. I have a wood stove but I have a heat pump in my house and they let that go because the wood stove is for asthetics, or at least that is what I tell them. Let me burst your bubble a bit further. I would check and see what they say about gas heat. On houses the insurance agencies here will not insure them unless they have a thermostat that is remote mounted on a wall and works off of electricity. You might want to check into that. I was noticing the other day that home depot had a bullet heater that burned diesel and was 115,000 BTU it was less than 300 dollars. Could you get that and just tell them it is not heated and use the diesel heater as a space heater when you wanted to work in the garage. Also since it is not connected to the house I have had experience that the value of the garage and contents is only a percentage of my homeowners policy so you might want to get a rider to cover everything in it.

Gemini: thanks for the info.

I did ask him about the ventless heators, they do not have any controls except the one on the unit, no elec to them. He said that is ok to install. I think I will have him come up and look at it and tell me in person its ok I asked him to fax me a letter stating I could install the ventless heartor before I went out and bought one. Details details details., better safe than sorry tough.

We still have ice coving the ground but has left the roof of the garage. I think this is the fourth week of this stuff hanging around. But it is winter but what is worse we are still getting down to around 4 to 8 degree at night and only the teens during the day.

Oh well spring is around the coner if I could only keep the garage warm while I rush to get it wired and sheeting on, then I can move to the outside for the siding and sofit etc.

have a good weekend all

Roger
