Step ladders ??

OP is this a straight ladder or A frame style?

I guess you would call it A-frame style,not a extension ladder.The local fastenal dealer has a Louisville model 1414hd in a 14 footer that is 1AA rated(375 lbs)I going to check out monday.

If I was looking to buy a new 14' ladder I'd consider a podium ladder.

You don't say where or how you will you be using it. I just like the idea of the larger step platform at that height.

I've got a 21ft little giant... love it but dang heavy. Also a 8ft Werner step and assorted wood and aluminum little guys. Seeing the Podium advert, I am sold on another one just because of the frisbee action. Honestly loving the idea of having a platform as I age. Will have to check them out.

I had an aluminum extension ladder in my bedroom going up to an attic as a kid. I had some weird spine problems and we had no money, so for "poor man's traction" I had to hang from the ladder by my hands for as long as I could stand it three times a day. Got to the point where 20-30 minutes was nothing. I have great posture now. :laughing: Anyhow... after growing up and getting a job working with electricity, I soon found out that metal ladders are not my friend. I've had wood, then fiberglass ever since. :thumbsup:

Yes my Werner is fiberglass and I love it. My choice would be carbon fiber... imagine how much lighter it would be than fiberglass... 1/3 lighter easily. Can you tell I'm getting old? Too bad it's conductive unlike glass fiber.

I have 6', 8' & 24' Werner's, rated @300 lbs, great ladders, they are stored inside away from UV rays which are hard on fiberglass.
Most of the ones i've seen go bad are on the roadways where someone didn't tie them down

I like that podium ladder. Never seen one. The only 3 legged ladders I ever saw were in a apple orchard.

I think I'm "ladder poor" My first one was one of those articulating ladders that can be used in a "U" shape, "V" shape, straight, or any other weird combination - much like a Little Giant ladder. But it's so heavy that I absolutely dreaded getting it out to use it.
So, I began collecting Werner step ladders, only in the orange 300# capacity size, seeing as how I'm over 200#. That weight with any tools or supplies that I need to work with would exceed the lighter weight ladders. I just cringe when I see these lard asses whipping out those blue Werner ladders... they are overloaded, and I have had ladders break with me before!
By now I have a collection of 4' blue Werner for inside the house for the little Lady of the House. A 6', 8', 10', and a 24' 3-section Werner aluminum.

I'm pretty much sold on Werner brand due to their experience and history. That's not to say that there aren't other good brands out there, but when I'm off the ground, I'm not comfortable with "good" - I want the "best". Whatever you decide, consider your vulnerability when off the ground; your well being is totally dependent upon the quality of the ladder that you're standing on.

I have a 12 foot Werner step ladder that's great. I also bought the bucket that connects to the top of the ladder for holding stuff that I also really like. It works on all Werner step ladders. The 12 foot is my heaviest ladder and the one I always hate dragging around on jobs. It's very useful, but the weight is something to consider.

I've never tried to carry or set up a 14 foot step ladder. I didn't know they existed. My guess is that it's going to be even heavier, and harder to set up.

How often will you use it? I rented 12 foot ladders for a few jobs before buying. Turned out to be something I use half a dozen times a year. Some years I use it every day for weeks at a time.

I almost bought a Little Giant ladder after watching an infomercial on it that impressed me. But then posted a question about it on here and got mixed reviews. Some people love it, others find it too heavy to deal with and always use another ladder instead. The cost was also a factor. It's heavy AND EXPENSIVE!!!!! I looked into the copy of it at Lowes, which was about half what they wanted for it on the infomercial, and didn't care for it.

I have two extension ladders, 20 and 24 feet. I have 6 step ladders, 4, 6, 7, two 8 foot and the 12 foot. I've had days where every one of them where set up and I went from ladder to ladder. I have to folding step stools. 2 step and 3 step. I use the 3 step folding step stool more then anything else. It stays in my truck all the time. It's a must have for me.

Eddie,my use of the step ladder is going to be just around my house/barns.The weight of the louisville 14ft. step ladder I am considering is around 90 lbs.Not to terrible weight wise.
