These green ones are fairly common. They must hang around the light on the back of the shop at night, then stay put all day long. It's also very common to see them dead on the ground or pices of them the next morning.

It's probably four inches across.

Anybody know what it is???

This picture is a few years old from when I was building my "Container Barn."

I noticed the picture while filing the one for the green moth above. Since this one has such amazing colors and paterns, I thought I'd share it. I've never seen one since this picture, but have come across parts of the wings from time to time at the container barn. Never here at the new house which is just a thousand feet away.

It's bigger than the green moth, maybe five inches across.

Anybody know what it is?

It's a Cecropia moth -- the largest moth in North America.

Geez, I can remember some things from high school biology classes 40 years ago, yet I can't remember where I left that tool I was using yesterday... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: Steph\'s Nature Pics

Mike and Kent,

Thanks for the help with those Moths!! I've heard of a Luna Moth, but never knew what it looked like.

The Cecropia is real interesting and it sounds like I was real lucky to get the picture of it when I did!!! I've never heard of an animal that doesn't have a mouth or any way to eat before. Two weeks and it's dead.

Fascinating stuff!!!

Ron,

Thanks for the fawn pic. We saw one with spots the other day also, but couldn't get a picture of it. Moma had us covered and new right away something was wrong. She kept baby in the bushes, then after a minute or two, she started stomping her feet and snorting. That was a first for Steph, so that was fun, but the warning signal was sent, and they both ran off.

Re: Steph\'s Nature Pics

Poor birds, I hope they don't get made fun of by other birds because of their "shorts" on their legs.

I found a another site about that moth...

My Lord that thing is big, I don't think I have ever seen one or maybe I did and it hit me and knocked me out.
